We need to realize that the family is the cornerstone of the society and the more we preserve it and ground it on true values, the healthier, cleaner and more secure our communities will be.
In his response to this issue, Dr. Hatem al-Haj stated:
Marriage is the way of Allah’s messengers, including the last and greatest, our most beloved, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
He commanded us to marry as he said, “O young people let those of you who can afford marriage get married for it will help them lower their gaze and protect their chastity. And for those who can not afford it, they may fast for it will control the sexual desire.”(Al-Bukhari and Muslim). He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said, “He whom Allah provides with a righteous woman was helped on half of his religion, so let him fear Allah regarding the other half.” (Al-Hakim)
This alludes to the idea that the family is the smallest unit in the construction of the community. Each of the spouses is half of that unit, and when they are coupled, which is the meaning of the word zawaj, they make a full unit.
Given all that, the destruction of the family unit is the priority of Satan, as clarified by the following hadith, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “When the devil wakes he then dispatches his soldiers and when they return to him he says to them, ‘Whoever misguided a Muslim today, I will crown him. So one of them comes out and says, ‘I made him divorce his wife.’” (Ahmad)
Another hadith says: “I made him mistreat his parents.” And, a third one says: “I made him commit shirk (associating partners with Allah).”
Finally, Muslims should remember that, the best guidance is that of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who received the last message from Almighty Allah.
