In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All thanks and praise are due to Allah and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear questioner! Thank you very much for the great confidence you place in us and the apparent interest you show in having a clearer understanding of the teachings of Islam. May Allah guide you to the best of deeds and help us render this work purely for His Sake! Amen!
Islam is a universal message that calls for justice, cooperation and kindness and caters for the happiness and welfare of humanity. This fact is declared in the Qur'an when Allah says: "Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, that ye may receive admonition." (An-Nahl: 90)
Hence, Muslims are commanded to support and establish justice and fight against oppression irrespective of where or against whom it is done. In a world where there is much instances of injustice and oppression against the weak and helpless masses who are the target of merciless weapons, which are merely to be tested on them, Muslims should have a role and mission. It is their Divinely entrusted obligation to stand by the oppressed regardless of their race, color, religion or affiliation and say NO to the oppressor and ask him to respond to the voice of reason and justice by all possible and legitimate means.
Coming to the question in point, Sheikh Faysal Mawlawi, Deputy Chairman of the European Council of Fatwa and Research, states the following:
“Once Iraq is attacked by the US, as the latter is threatening to do, it becomes the responsibility of all Muslims to help their Iraqi fellow brethren.
Every Muslim should help according to his/her means. The faintest help we can offer is supplication, condemning such attack and backing the Iraqis financially.
In addition, boycotting American products will play a vital role, for such boycott will be a form of facing the prospective US attack on Iraq.
Unfortunately, some Iraqi oppositions have joined hands with America in this game threatening the stability of a Muslim country under the pretext of deposing the Iraqi regime. Whatever be the faults of the existing Iraqi regime, it is not allowed to let foreign troops intervene in this, for this will lead to worsening the condition of the poor Iraqi people and destroying Iraq itself. This is a form of helping America in spreading its hegemony on the Muslim world, a thing that acts negatively on the interests of Muslim countries.
To me, helping America in this prospective attack is an act of disloyalty to Allah, His Prophet and all believers even if carried under the pretext of ousting the Iraqi regime.”
