As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, the One in Whose Hands lie all affairs. May Allah send his peace and blessings on Muhammad and those who follow him to the Day of Judgment.
There are different things to consider:
Advantages to Co-ed:
If the proper rules are in place, students learn how to develop healthy and proper interactions among different genders.
Advantages to Separate:
There is now research to show that gendered schooling at about middle school level may actually be more beneficial to students because of developmental factors. Especially because as students are going through puberty, they are distracted by the opposite gender. However, if they are separate, the distractions are no longer there.
As for disadvantages:
I think the only thing I would think of is that in highly segregated societies, young people do not learn how to develop respectful relationships within society but it should not be a basis for schooling.
And Allah knows best.

Men and women think differently. Women think materially, they know what they can see. Men think conceptually. Co-education must be attuned to female thinking otherwise thy will be left out. This makes the males uncomfortable and accounts for the high mail drop out rates in college and increased male truancy in high schools. Grade school boys cannot drop out so they are given the drug Ritalin to make them endure the female environment that they are subjected to.
Having opposite sexes in the same classroom creates sexual tension, which detracts from learning. Every experiment at single sex education found that both sexes enjoyed it best.
There are no intellectual advantages to co-education.
