Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother in Islam, thank you very much for having confidence in us and we hope our efforts, which are purely for Allah’s Sake, meet your expectations.

Responding to the question, Dr. `Ali Jum`ah, professor of Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, states the following:

“Boycotting products is of little or no effect unless it is done by governments, for governments will constitute real pressure by drawing out the list of all the products that should be boycotted and undertaking tangible steps towards banning such products altogether.

As for boycotting commodities indispensable to Muslims or which are in their possession or fall in their ownership and have become widely circulated in Muslim countries, boycotting such products will harm Muslims only, irrespective of the motive behind the boycott. This form of boycott has no direct effect on the conglomerate companies that produce such products.

Regarding Muslims depositing money in non-Muslim banks abroad, we can say that it is high time Muslims start reconsidering the issue. They should repent to Allah and keep away from adding more power to enemy’s elbow to attack their fellow brothers.
As for making recreational travel to the lands of those who launch attacks against Muslims and doing shopping there, this is something not advisable, for this will help boost their economy and further reinforce them to wage more attacks against Muslims.

Finally, Muslims who have migrated to those countries and are currently undertaking professional jobs there should best represent Islam in their capacity as Muslim ambassadors who do good offices that are capable of bearing fruitful results to their religion as well as their fellow brothers back home.”

May Allah guide you to the straight path, and guide you to that which pleases Him, Amen.

Allah Almighty knows best.
