Islamabad - Pakistani security forces raided Shamshato, an Afghan refugee camp near the northwestern city of Peshawar.  They killed two children when they opened fire on the refugees, ‘a refugee’ said.  Official sources said they entered the camp to arrest some suspects after receiving intelligence that they are hiding in the camp.

'The refugee’, requested not to be identified, said Pakistani soldiers. The paramilitary forces, and the police entered the Shamshato camp early one morning, and arrested people who offered morning prayers. He said the Pakistani forces entered the camp with 100 vehicles including armoured vehicles.

'The refugee’ alleged that the forces entered the houses and started arresting the people. This move was resisted by the inmates. He said thousands of children threw stones at the Pakistani forces and the forces opened fire on the angry children.

“Two children Tariq, 13 and Inamullah 15 were killed, and four other children were injured” ‘the refugee’ said.

'The refugee' said also that the police fired tear gas shells, and many fell on houses, badly affecting women and children.  He added that the police had also refused to hand over the children till the afternoon. However, bodies were handed over after camp elders intervened.Moreover, he said that the security forces arrested 27 refugees from the camp.

A meeting of the camp elders has been convened to discuss the situation.
