“Are you still sitting in front of that television, dear?”

“Yes, Granny, I am developing my mind.”

“How do you propose doing that dear?”

“By reaching out to the four corners of the world!”

“But you are watching a soap opera dear and sorry to remind you, but you are not reaching out when you switch on the television. It comes to you. You are simply a passive observer dear.”

“Perhaps so Granny, but what am I observing? I am watching the trials and tribulations of life. The ups and downs of human emotions.”

“It is not real dear.”

“But it is all real life. Didn’t you see how she was betrayed and left alone to face life with two little children? And then the other one worked herself up through the business until she became manager, only to have an accident and lose everything. Its so heart rending, Granny.”

“It's all nonsense dear.”

“What do you mean?”

“They're all actors getting paid far too well to give out a distorted image of life to people like you, dear.”

“Distorted?”

“Yup.”

“This is all based on true life experience Granny!”

“How would you know, dear?”

“Well I am alive! I am a living person, and I know real people.”

"You cannot equate this nonsense, dear, with the real world unless you have lived in it.”

“I have no idea of what you are driving at Granny.”

“I mean, dear, that life itself gives out its own dramas, stories, experiences, advice, and wisdom to whoever wishes to tap into it.”

“Well I am tapping into it, Granny. I am watching it.”

“How about living it, dear? Get off the chair, go out to the nearest place you can find that is doing something for someone somewhere, and get involved!”

“You mean go out of the house? Meet people? Negotiate? Work?”

“Yes, dear. Absolutely right, dear, and you will get a birds eye view of the real dramas of life and the courage of people to face the challenges, turn over the obstacles, surmount the crisis, pick up the pieces and...”

“I get your point, Granny.”

“So, dear, what will it be? Will you be a frump? A nobody? A slob? A good-for-nothing passive observer of life?”

“Me? Never, Granny!”

“Or an active, full of initiative, on the ball, people person, who knows what life is all about and jumps in, boots and all, into the fray of humanity?”

“That sounds just like me, Granny.”

“Well, where are you off to now in such a hurry, dear?”

“Well, I am gonna fly down to the local community center and offer my services to humanity; but I will have to be quick so as not to miss the next episode of the … and the …!”
