Further Escalation in Thailand

With Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's sweeping electoral victory, analysts consider Thailand's Muslim south to be the primary challenge facing his new term. The confrontation between Muslim groups in the south and the Thai authorities have cost many Muslim lives. Muslims in southern Thailand have constantly complained from discrimination and government abuse.

This morning, a new cycle of confrontation made its mark as an armored inspection train came under attack in the southern province of Narathiwat by militants after a blast detonated by a mobile phone.
