LONDON (AFP) - European justice ministers urged greater international cooperation in the fight against cyber-crime at the end of a two-day meeting. "It is essential to establish a swift and efficient system of international cooperation, which takes duly into account the specific requirements of the fight against crime in a computer environment," said a statement from Council of Europe justice ministers meeting here.
They called for the Strasbourg-based council to speed up work on combating cyber-crime and conclude an international treaty by the end of the year. During the two-day meeting, ministers also agreed measures to improve judicial systems in the member states, including increased use of information technology and the setting up of an Internet database on legal "best practice."
The Council of Europe brings together 41 European nations on issues such as democracy, human rights, environmental and legal cooperation. Russia invited justice ministers to hold their next meeting in Moscow in September 2001
