Vaccination Awareness

Vaccination needle

The idea of vaccination has been around for thousands of years, in one form or another. In ancient Greece a mixture of poisons called Mithridaticum used to be taken by royalty over time in minute doses and was thought to prevent against future poisoning by creating and immunity (Tierra). Doctors and nurses have also been known to expose themselves to various diseases over time to create immunity. Before modern medical vaccines were created "Measles parties" used to be common in Britain; if a child got measles, other parents in the neighborhood would rush their kids over to play with the infected child, to deliberately contract the disease and develop immunity (Phillips). Modern manufactured vaccines, however, are a new concept are still in its early stages of experimentation. Although the vaccine program was originally started to bring down the rates of epidemic diseases, vaccines have brought with them new epidemics and have been challenged more and more frequently in recent years.

Advocates of vaccination state that vaccines have saved millions of people and are personally responsible for wiping out entire illnesses from the face of the earth, such as small pox. They further claim that unvaccinated children pose a medical risk to children who are vaccinated, as they are potential disease carriers. However, more and more medical establishments, parents and organizations are questioning the quality and necessity of modern vaccines. Vaccine reformists state that nature is the ultimate vaccinator and that smallpox was actually wiped out by nature and not by man. They further state that vaccines have actually harmed more children than they have helped and that unvaccinated children are actually healthier that vaccinated children because they have been allowed to naturally develop their immune systems. In addition, they are concerned about some of the chemical additives in vaccines, which have been known to cause fatal allergic reactions in some children. Muslim and Jewish parents, as well as some Christians are also worried about ingredients such as pork and/or fetus material that is used in vaccine manufacture (Ostrom).

The fact that surprises most people is that vaccination has never actually been clinically proven to be effective in preventing disease. This is because no researcher has directly exposed test subjects to any disease after being vaccinated, nor may they ethically do so. Lack of clinical studies is what has taken many drugs and even herbs off the market. Vast human experience, as in the case of herbal medicine, is usually discredited in favor of clinical studies (Greene). However, in the case of vaccines the only “proof” presented by vaccine manufacturers is “vast human experience”. In the case of small pox, for instance, the vaccine manufacturers claim that the small pox vaccine wiped out the disease. However, small pox was wiped out in Europe during the same time period where the small pox vaccine had never been used (NVIC).

Due to the fact that vaccines have never been tested, children being vaccinated are usually the test subjects for the vaccine. Some vaccines are even taken off the market if enough negative reports are filed against them. Other vaccines remain on the market while investigation of complaints is pending (Phillips). The rotavirus vaccine was taken off the market a few months after being introduced when it caused bowel obstructions in many recipients. Incredibly, the FDA and CDC knew about this problem prior to licensing the vaccine, but both organizations still gave their unanimous approval (Phillips).

Although vaccination is mandatory in most schools now, unvaccinated children actually have a better health record. In an article entitled "Plagued by Cures," The Economist acknowledged that trying to prevent infectious diseases could create resistant strains of bacteria and mutant viruses able to evade vaccines. The article continued to explain the "hygiene hypothesis," which states that exposure to infections in can prevent chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's and cancer later in life since "intervening in infections may have undesirable effects on the pathogens themselves as well as the ill person (Ostrom)." Numerous studies back up this information. The National Vaccine Information Center reports that, “In a study in Guinea-Bissau, researchers found that children who had not had measles disease were significantly more likely to suffer from allergies including asthma, eczema and hay-fever. In Italy, researchers found that children who were exposed to hepatitis A disease were less likely to suffer from allergies.”

One theory being forwarded to explain why recovery from naturally occurring childhood diseases is important is that the human immune system has evolved over tens of thousands of years to respond to and be strengthened by attacks from viruses and bacteria. Depriving the developing immune system of naturally occurring infections in childhood may cause the immune system to eventually attack itself, which is what happens in autoimmune diseases like asthma and diabetes.

Autism has been linked to batches of vaccines.

Lowering immune function is a small danger of vaccines, however, compared to the danger of actually acquiring a disease from vaccination. Many vaccines are now under investigation for their link in causing a number of deaths and childhood ailments. DPT has been linked to childhood diabetes, the MMR vaccine has been linked to autism and brain damage has been related to the chicken pox vaccine (Phillips). In fact, doctors started making reports in medical literature as early as 1949 that some children injected with pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine (now part of the DPT or DTaP shot) were having trouble maintaining normal glucose levels in their blood. Lab research has confirmed that pertussis vaccine can cause diabetes in mice.

There are a number of cautions a parent can take before vaccinating their child however, and a thoughtful vaccination is much more likely to be safe than one done at the wrong time or in the wrong way. The National Center for Vaccine Information gives the following list of guidelines:

  1. The child should not have been sick in the past three days.
  2. The child did not have a bad reaction to a vaccine before.
  3. The child does not have a family history of vaccine reactions, convulsions, severe allergies or immune system disorders.
  4. The parent must know the risks of the vaccine.
  5. The parent must know how to identify a vaccine reaction.
  6. The parent must know how to report a vaccine reaction.
  7. The patent must ask for the vaccine manufacturer's batch and lot number at the time of vaccination.

In addition, homeopathic remedies such as thuja or ledum can be given to children before and after vaccination to further prevent any harm. In Japan, children are vaccinated almost a year later than they are in the United States. Some doctors recommend waiting to vaccinate. However, even those that feel the risk of vaccine is worth the trade off are still uncomfortable about some of the ingredients in vaccines. Vaccines contain egg protein, gelatin, mercury, antibiotics, formaldehyde, thimerosal, aluminum hydroxide, aluminum phosphate, washed sheep red blood cells, glycerol, sodium chloride, and/or thimerosal medium of porcine (pig) (Greene). In addition, vaccines like MMR contain aborted human fetal tissue (Tilton). The product insert for the MMR Vaccine shows that,” the rubella virus vaccine live (contains the Wistar Institute RA 27/3 strain of rubella virus propagated in human diploid [WI-38] cell culture). These "human diploid cell cultures" are made from the lung and other tissues of an aborted fetus (Tilton).

Vaccinations are overabundant in modern hospitals.

In addition, many vaccines have been found to be contaminated as well as filled with chemicals are questionable ingredients. Over the last few years, there have been several scientists who have come forward with evidence that the early polio vaccines were contaminated with monkey viruses, both SIV and SV40, and that chronic illness has resulted from that contamination. There was recently a National Institutes of Health conference held here in the Washington, D.C., area that brought together a number of researchers who are culturing SV40 from tumors of adults and children who are suffering from rare forms of bone, brain, and lung cancer.

One wonders, then why the government is backing the vaccine program with such enthusiasm. Barbara Loe Fisher, a cofounder and President of the National Vaccine Information Center says, "I've been at meetings where public health officials basically have said, 'Why are you complaining? Yes, your child was a casualty, but we must all risk for the welfare of the whole.' And I remind them that the whole is made up of individuals, and when you devalue the life of the individual, you devalue the whole. And I remind them that the right to informed consent to any medical procedure which carries the risk of injury or death is a human right.” The prophet Muhammed (saws) also said, "A person who has killed one man it is as if he has killed the entire Ummah (Bukhari)."

Note: This article is not intended to advise people against vaccination. The writer of this article was forced to vaccinate her own children but did so with awareness of the risks and followed the safety procedures above. She also delayed vaccination dates, administered homeopathic remedies and took cautionary measures after each child was vaccinated. To deal with the haram ingredients in some of the vaccines a Sheik suggested that reciting "bisimillah arrahman arrahim" over the vaccines would cleanse them.
