Taiwan's ProMOS Technologies Acquires Siemens Chip-Making Expertise

TAIPEI (AFP) - Taiwan's ProMOS Technologies Inc. said it had forged an agreement with Infineon of Germany to acquire state-of-the-art expertise needed to make 12-inch integrated circuit chips.

Under the accord the Taiwanese DRAM (dynamic random access memory) manufacturer will begin with its first ever 12-inch plant using 0.14-micron technology developed by Infineon, the DRAM maker affiliated with Germany's Siemens. The plant in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park in the northern county of Hsinchu is scheduled to launch a test run late next year.
