Every 4 years, the World Cup comes, entertaining millions of people around the world. With World Cup 2006 being hosted in Europe, more attention has been paid to issues like integration, tolerance, racism, and discrimination.

The world cup 2006 official logo and slogan show that the occasion goes beyond football. The logo depicts three laughing faces in yellow, blue, and green forming the symbol "006" and welcoming the world to a party for the World Cup. The slogan, in German, "Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden," means "A time to make friends."

According to Franz Beckenbauer, the president of the World Cup Organizing Committee, the World Cup logo displays "Celebrating Faces of Football" and aims to convey the message that Germany will be a welcoming and friendly host. "We believe that the new emblem perfectly expresses our philosophy of having a buoyant, cheerful, and carefree tournament in 2006," the former German coach and playing legend added. "Everybody knows that we're good at organizing but we wanted to convey another, warmer, and friendlier image of Germany."

European Muslims Page brings you different media coverage of World Cup 2006 that goes beyond football and sport, emphasizing the spirit of the three laughing faces and the message of the friendly slogan.

Sports & Bridging the Gap Between Countries

I see that sports competitions can play a vital role in bridging the gab between countries. Palestinians, for example, can seize the chance of the world cup in introducing their case to people. They can show how they suffer from oppression, injustice, and unfair treatment. Do you agree with me that sports can help people to know each other? (Join the forum)
