The Islamic Society in Denmark (ISD) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization. We are at the service of the Muslims living in Denmark, helping them to integrate into Danish society without compromising with religion. At the same time, we function as a center for Muslims in Denmark, providing arrangements from birth to burial.
We work on all levels from grassroots to government. Our open-door policy toward the Danish society is something that we adopted since the organization was established back in 1993. We have pursued this policy not only in discourse but also in a very proactive way, especially in these times when Islam is presented in a very biased way.
Furthermore, in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), we make sure to convey the Message in all of these engagements. We consider this to be the utmost important duty of Muslims living in the West, because this fosters good Muslim role models for generations to come.
Non-Muslims' Interest in Islam

The result of our open-door policy is clear: We have more than 200 groups that visit the ISD, and they include many different professionals: politicians, teachers, students with weekly themes about religion, kindergarteners, professionals working in hospitals (doctors, nurses, paramedics, etc.), elderly people, businesspersons, media specialists, and so on. All of them are non-Muslims and are eager to learn and understand what Islam is all about. Each of the 200 groups embraces something between 10 and 130 individuals. Thus, we have a big workload, and we do it willingly.
Regarding the politicians, we have a very open dialogue with them, and we seek not to merely appease them but also to focus on the real issues of Muslims. In an atmosphere of respect, we have had several visits from politicians and ministers. We also had a close cooperation with the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs when we built the first Muslim cemetery a few years ago. Recently, we received a visit from the minister of integration, and the outcome was successful.

Moreover, we have established relations with almostall the youth organizations of the main political parties through our youth organization Muslim Youth in Denmark (MUNIDA), and they have had several projects together.
To conclude, we — as Muslims — have to fit into society and be interested in what is going on in any society we live in.
