Voices: The Indigenous People of Australia

August 09th is the U.N. Day of Indigenous Peoples, but what does that mean in a globalized world?  Here we take a look at the indigenous peoples of Australia known as Aborigines. However to them, 'aborigine' signifies the dawn of their oppression as a result of colonization. In fact, they have many names, according to clan, not according to nationhood, as they do have a generic name. As a part of their struggle for human rights, they have taken the name 'Koori', which is the name of one of their clans in the south east.  Koori represents the name they have stgruggle under for recognition in their own land, as a people with a different world view of their own.
