Islam, as a comprehensive way of life, covers all aspects of people's lives and considers their natural needs for recreation and refreshment. Some people might misunderstand the Islamic stance on sports, thinking that Islam is indifferent to sports. On the contrary, Islam exhorts people to have strong bodies. Muslims are commanded to be of sound bodies, minds, and morals.
Moreover, many Islamic rituals imply movements that help the body attain physical fitness once they are practiced properly. The rituals of pilgrimage, paying visits to Muslim brothers, visiting the sick, going to and fro the mosque and participating in many social activities are kinds of sport.
This folder, one of the Living Shari`ah 10+ Fatwa series, contains tens of fatwas that tackle the Islamic stance on different types of sports.
