(…Take not life, which Allah has made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus does He command you, that you may learn wisdom.)

                                                                              (Al-An`am 6:151)

The above verse from the Qur'an leaves no room for anyone to commit such a crime in the name of Islam.

Recently, honor crimes have been hitting the news in a way that makes hair stand on end. Women are beaten, mutilated and killed with no concrete evidence that they have committed such a crime. The criminal justifies his act, as in most cases the killer is a man, with a simple phrase "it was done in the name of Honor."

Honor crimes have been condemned widely by various parties; media, human rights activists, intellectuals or celebrities.

Unfortunately, these horrible actions are always ascribed to Islam and Muslims although they are deeply rooted in many other ethnicities including non-Muslim communities. Therefore, it is our duty before others', to understand the dilemma of honor killing, clarifying the Islamic perspective in this regard.

Take a moment and tell us:

* How do you perceive honor killing?

* Is it cultural or religious? How does your culture reflect honor killing?

* In your opinion, how does the media machine report on honor killing?
