The Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been followed around with the "accusations" of being a "closet" Muslim. Some question his Americanism, while others see him more able to understand and communicate with the Muslim world based on his childhood interaction with Muslims in Indonesia.

Obama has always taken the defensive stance regarding the issue; "I have been victimized by these lies," he declared in an MSNBC debate.

Among Muslims in the US those who feel bittered from Obama's reactions. The 25-year-old Muslim American, Hebba Aref, thinks that "everyone was treating this accusation of being Muslim as though it were some sort of crime or sin."

In the recent UNITY conference in Chicago, Obama tried to explain his stance. "This is a classic example of a no-win situation ... I have repeatedly said I'm not a Muslim, but this whole strategy of suggesting that I am is indicative of anti-Muslim strategy that we have to fight against."

Do you think Obama's handling of the issue is offensive to Muslims?
How should he have replied instead?
