Warring Factions is a journey through the life of an Iranian-American Muslim moviemaker, trying to find where he fits in the so-called conflict between East and West.
Warring Factions is Justin Mashouf's current project and his most ambitious and important to date. The production of the movie started in April 2007, and Mashouf has since traveled to Tehran to shoot half of the movie. The movie chronicles Mashouf's life as a Muslim American with a mixed cultural background and his wishes to tone down the conflict between the US and Iran, mainly the lack of knowledge each country has about the other.
In the course of shooting, Mashouf was detained by American customs and his footage was confiscated for review. With the help of a University of Arizona lawyer, Mashouf's tapes were returned to him. He is currently in the later stages of editing the movie and expects it to be finished by July.
Upon completing the movie, he hopes to tour the international festival circuit and seek major distribution for the project.

Mashouf is a moviemaker who became interested in movie and video in junior high when he insisted on shooting many of his school projects on video and screening them to the class.
While attending high school, Mashouf was assigned to make a public-service announcement about littering to be aired on close circuit television at his high school campus. Due to the unexpected popularity of the video, Mashouf produced a series of award-winning public-service announcements every month until he graduated in 2003. He began working on local Arizona movie and television shoots, gaining hands-on experience and connecting with local moviemakers.
With the experience and relationships he garnered in Arizona, he co-directed and produced a 20-minute black comedy called The Runners in 2007.
Mashouf has recently obtained his bachelor's at the University of Arizona where he served as vice president of the Muslim Students Association.
