Banning "Stop the Islamisation of Europe" Demonstrations

SIOE is a platform of people in Europe who want to prevent spread of Islam in the West.

Yesterday, the mayor of the European Union de facto capital, Brussels, did not give his permission to a demonstration of Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE), that was being planned on 9/11 at the European Parliament. According to SIOE, the demonstration was expected to attract ten thousands of people to express their fear of Islam and, more specifically, of Shari`ah.

On its website, SIOE states that the grand mufti of Brussels — read the mayor of Brussels — "is not fully aware of his responsibility, for as a mayor at EU's capital you cannot simply forbid ordinary European citizens to express their constitutional freedoms."

By banning the demonstration, SIOE writes, "The mayor is precisely highlighting SIOE's demonstration title: Stop the Islamisation of Europe. SIOE's message through the 4 slogans is exactly to warn against conditions such as these, where people no longer can use their freedom of expression and feel secure, but the shocking facts are that these conditions already reign at the heart of the EU."

Although illegal, SIOE still mobilizes European citizens to participate to the demonstration, because they see it as a peaceful utterance of opinion. SIOE says that "it is, of course, completely absurd to ban a peaceful demonstration because they are afraid of violent Muslim counter-demonstrators!"

SIOE is a platform of people in Europe who want to prevent Islam of becoming a dominant political force in the West. Its only aim is to combat the expansion of Islam in Europe, since Islam is being perceived as incompatible with democracy. Islamophobia as such is considered a rational strategy to protect Europe's long-standing values of respect for human rights. SIOE originated from the British "No Sharia Here" and the Danish "Stop Islamization of Denmark" (Stop Islamiseringen af Danmark; SIAD).
