Asalaam o alaikum! This is my first Ramadan as a mother and I've noticed some changes. I am more meditative, mindful that my little son is watching my example. I live in a country which is constantly fed false images of Islam from the TV and I have discovered that the curiosity of my co-workers about my fast is a good opportunity for dawa. Also as a mother, I realize that I am tempted not so much by hunger, but rather by habit. I have to be mindful of my fast so that I don't, out of habit, share the snack I give to my son. In Canada, we have the wonderful opportunity of sharing iftar with Sunnis, Shias, Palistinians, Pakistanis, Egyptians, Ethiopians and many others, including Anglo-Saxons like myself. It is wonderful to eat and pray with sisters from various backgrounds and know we have very important things in common.
