"No to War … No to Tyranny ... There is Another Alternative"

Recommendations by the Arab Civil Society on the Iraqi Question

First: We refuse and denounce all plans of launching a war against Iraq.

Second: We call upon the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Conference and all organizations concerned to take the initiative in sparing the Iraqi people from war.

Third: We affirm that the elimination of weapons of mass destruction should be governed by a single, uniform criterion applied to all states without discrimination.

Fourth: We call upon Arab and Muslim States to lift all restrictions that hinder a person’s right to express him or her self freely in fields not limited only to the expression of solidarity with the Palestinian and Iraqi peoples.

Fifth: We call upon the Arab and Muslim leaders to shoulder their historical responsibilities towards the Iraqi people and unite in their commitment to deny the use of facilities located on Arab land for forces planning an invasion of Iraq.

Sign the declaration issued by the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) Monday, February 24. The declaration includes the Arab civil society recommendations to Arab and Muslim leaders. It is already signed by more than 70 NGOs and 120 intellectuals from all over the world.

We will deliver this declaration to the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Conference and other governmental and non-governmental organizations.
