Question Alsalam aleikom,
my question is about (alzakat) does a woman have to make zakat for her marriage gold?
Answer The gold that a woman possesses for ornaments does not need to have Zakat paid for it. The only school of law that says it Zakatable is the Hanafi school. The Zakat for the Hanafi school on jewelry is 2.5% of the value of gold on an annual basis.

Question Assalaam-Alaykum,

I am Hashim Karim, an Indian male aged 30 years. I am working for a bank in its computers department.

Our department has developed a software for our banks usage. This software is installed and running at all of our branches. The software is developed by us while working with the bank. The software is very good and it have good potential of selling. The bank has not registered for its Copyrights.

My departmental head has approached me to develope the same software on our owm and sell it in the market as the bank is not interested in selling the existing software.

He has suggested me various alternatives as follows.

Alternative 1:
We take the current software and we make another software by looking at the current software of the bank. At the same time we continue our job with the bank.

Alternative 2:
We leave the bank and take the current software and we make another software by looking at the current software of the bank.

Alternative 3:
We continue with the bank and do not take the current software to our home. Instead we daily look at the current software at the office and make new software at home.

Alternative 4: We leave the bank and our boss takes the current software and he tells us how to make the new software.

Once the software is ready we sell it in the market with other name.

Please guide me what to do?
Answer Please consult a business consultant on this issue. This forum is related to matters of Islamic law.

Question Salamu alaikum:

I am divorced woman, who reverted to islam many years ago. I raise my children on my own, with family and friends. However, I have no male muslim family members - i.e. no mahram. AlhamdulaAllah, i am a practicing muslima and am considered the senior member of my circle of family and friends. My questions are: 1. Am i responsible, as head of my family, to sacrifice for Eid al Adha, even though i am not a man. and 2. since i have no wali, but have been married before, am i free to engage in the negotions of seeking a husband without a wali?
Jazak Allah Khayr
Answer 1-Sacrificing for Eid Al-Adha is not obligatory. When you can afford it, it is Sunnah irrespective of your gender.

2-You need not have a Wali if no Muslim wali of your family exists, but you should consult reliable men among the community to give you good advise about the marriage.

Question As Salaam U 3alikum wua Rahmatullah Wua barakatu. I've been trying to get an answer to my problem for the past 6 years and I have not found an answer yet. My father had a stroke that had left him quadriplexic. He cannot eat, move, talk, breath, or perform any regular-human activities. He has been placed in a ventilator, i.e. life support 100%, and he has been like that for the past 6 years approx. My family and I have been placed under a great distress, but we are always awating for the mercy of Allah (swt) As any son would love his father, I have been questioning myself for the past 6 years weather is haram or halal to unplug the machines from my father. I have not taken any acctions since I want to do what is right, humanly right and spiritually right. The first thing I did was to ask a sheikh in my community, but he couldn't give me an answer. Then, I called the Islamic court, here in Dallas-TX, USA, and they told me to ask the opinion of Muslim Drs who are specialized in neurology. My uncle got in hold of a muslim Dr who is a Neorusurgeon and he, after seeing my father and revising his file, had concluded that 50% (or more) from my dad's brain is dead, and that is irreversible. The prognosys is that he will get worse and worse as time passes by. Then my uncle ask the Dr. "What would you do if it were your brother?" and the Dr replied that he would unplug the machines since there is no hope in his specific case. I asked a sheikh in Houston about his opinion, and he said that is haram to unplug the machines. I have asked almost everyone. I personally think that my dad is suffering and is not improving. I think that I would unplug the machines and let him go, but I do not wanna do something that is incorrect... I do not what to do. I have tried to gather information, scientific and islamic information on this case, so I will make a god desicion. A friend of mine gave me this site. We were talking about Dr. Qaradawi, and the way he writes, we both like him alot. I cannot read nor write in arabic since I was born and raised in Venezuela (that's why i didn't visit www.qaradawi.net), but my friend told me that in this site I could find him, or find someone as knowledgable as Dr. Qaradawi who could help me. Please, My family and I need help. We are not sure about what to do. Please we need some guidence. As Salam U 3alikum wua Rahmatullah. "
Answer If your father is too old, more then one doctor says that there is no hope for his recovery and if you are paying the costs for his medical services, then this encourages me to say that you should unplug the machine.

Question Most of the food here in the US is cooked using (cooking wine), some people say that it's ok to eat it because all the wine evaporates (yatatayer) during cooking, is that true? is it halal or haram to eat from this food.
Answer You should avoid any food cooked with wine because you will pay for the wine and the alcohol does not evaporate totally in some meats. In this case then it is Haram to eat such foods.

Question Are all Sahih ahadeeth regarded as words of the prophet Muhammad pbuh? I read in Sahih Bukhari ahadeeth that differ at times considerably and talk about the same incident.
Answer The words in the Ahadith are not the exact words of the prophet (pbuh). The majority of Ahadith are narrated using synonyms. This is why you see some differences in the narrations of the same Hadith. The only people among the narrators who were allowed to use synonyms were the companions and the followers of the companions because they were very eloquent and knowledgably in the Arabic language. None of the later generations changed the wording of Ahadith.

Question Assalam Alaykum,
My sister was recently told at her work that she (along with her coworkers)is no longer allowed to wear hijab when scheduled to work.
(Subhanallah, this is happening in a so called islamic country.)
She is upset about this but she doesn't think she can do much about it.
She is expecting a second child, her salary is used to pay off the appartment she and her husband bought a year ago (this will last several years), her husband provides for their living and the education of the first child (private school because it offers a better education).
My sister would like to know how does islam deal with such an issue, knowing that Allah states in his holy book he does not wish to give us any hardship by worshiping him?
Looking for another job is probably a very bad idea, simply because there is a high unemployment rate back home, and she'll really need to have a connection .
Please advise my sister on her situation.
Jazakum Allah Kayran.
Answer Refer this question to scholars in your country for we do not know where you are from to give you an appropriate fatwa.

Question Assalamualaikum: Do I have to pay Zakat Elmal on money I am saving to buy my first house as I am renting for now and I do not want to buy a house with interst.
Jazakum Allah khair.
Answer What ever money you save is Zakatable when it is sufficient for your family for one year. Anything past that is Zakatable irrespective of your plan to purchase a house. If you buy the house before the Zakat is due, then you do not have to pay Zakat on that money. In your case, if you have less then 20,000 in the bank then you need not pay Zakat because that is considered the least amount of money for you live in the US for one year(Nisab),

Question salam:
sheik whats the opinion about offering SUNNAH prayers while traveling?i know that fard are reduced to 2 rakats but what about sunnah? also what about when your traveling compare to when you are actually arrived at you destination like at someone's home or even a hotel where it is easy for one to perform full prayers, does the # of sunnah rakahs change?
Answer There is no Sunnah for traveler but it is recommended to pray the Witr and Two Rakaah’s Sunnah before fajr while traveling. The Prophet (pbuh) never missed Witr or the Sunnah of Fajr when he was traveling.

As long as you are away from the place where you reside then you are a traveler and you ought to pray as such until you reestablish residency there or some where else.

Could you please name some books on Tafseer and Sunnah, written in English.
May Allah reward you for your great service. Ameen
Jazakum Allah Khair
Answer I advice you to focus firstly on the Quran. The best tafseer in English are: Maududi's tafseer Tafheem Al-Quran, Muhammad Asad's tafseer The Glorious Meanings of the Quran, Abdullah Yusuf translation and the translation of Ibn Kathirs tafseer. When you progress in your study of the Quran then I will let you know which books to study in Hadith.

Question SA

Having a leader is an important issue for any society, how come our prophet who was very concern about the future of his Ummat left them without appointing any one as a leader or at least letting people know that in what way they should appoint a leader for themselves?
How come non of the Sahabeh asked him about this vital issue?

Regards
Answer Very good question. The prophet (pbuh) did not tell us anything about anyone taking leadership after him because government is not a matter of Deen (religion) it is a matter of Maslaha (Public Welfare). The Ummah understood that it was up to them to choose the best-qualified person to lead them where by they chose Abu Bakr (RA). If we want to update the procedures of Muslim governance we should derive benefit from political institutions of the world especially in Europe and the USA. We can adopt what is good for us and avoid anything that is in contradiction to our Shari’ah.
