Question Asalamu alaikum

What is the ruling on eating or drinking foods or coffee with "cardamom" or "nutmeg" in them? Is this Haram? Also, is nutmeg itself Haram? If there are various views on this issue, it would be much appreciated to have them.
Jazzakum Allah Khayran
Answer
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

The basic rule is that all edible and useful food or drink is Halal unless otherwise mentioned in the Quran, the Sunnah, or by the unanimity of scholars.

As of the ingredients or spices you mentioned in your question; as long as it is not medically proven to be harmful, which is most probably the case, they are permissible to use.

Question I have read all the information about breast implants, and pretty much taken the view that it is a sin. However, I have been married for 6 months now, and have always wanted a woman with large breasts. Eventually I settled for a girl with smaller breasts than I would have liked, because she has so many better qualities. However, now I feel like I have missed out, and really regret that I married a girl with small breasts. So much so, that I am honestly considering committing adultery. This is not just a whim, I have been thinking about it for some time now. I almost have hatred for her. Would it be permissible for my wife to have breast implants to please me, and to stop me from committing adultery? I have discussed having breast implants with her, but I have not told her the reason, and she has agreed that she will have them. I would appreciate full confidentiality in this matter.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

It is the responsibility of both parties to attentively look at each other before proceeding with the marriage contract, obviously, to check the personal preferences on the potential life partner.

It is to be noted that breast implanting for beatifying- and not for medical-purposes is prohibited because it is an intentional change of Allah’s creation.

On the other hand, if you focus more on the good qualities your wife has, remember that the physical beauty does not last for long time, and that human desires are endless, you will feel more satisfaction and contentment with what Allah has destined for you.

What if after a while you wanted your wife to change her eyes color, or to have thicker lips, or shorter nose, or white skin, or… etc Are you going to ask her fulfilling all these requests to help you not committing adultery!

Dear scholars, is it ok to eat some food containing less than 1% alcohol found in some dressing or sauce ingredients such as sushi rice vinegar called Mirin? What do you say about alcohol that gets burned off in cooking?
Jazakum Allah Khayran
Answer
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

The evaporation of alcohol while cocking or processing the food is not completely guaranteed, their might still some taste or flavor in the food because of that. That is why consuming any food or drink containing any percentage of alcohol is prohibited.

On the other hand, the alternative is available, there are many other products are alcohol- free.

Question
I am going to join after 2 months apex level institute of country. I wish to continue Salah timely for which I have talk to Director who pose before me some situations and asked me that if I tell him proper answer to it, then he will allow me to pray, otherwise, I have to stop it while on duty or I will not be allowed to join institute. He asked me how will I pray without interfering my duty when I am:
1- in OPD, and hundreds of patients are waiting for their turns,
2- in (casualty) emergency cases that may come any time and suppose there are not much staff in spare,
3- in OT doing major surgery likely that which takes (6 hours)
4- in (ward) as its in charge and HOD comes to take round of ward. He said that I should be there to tell them about all the patients and that he is not going to wait for me, he has to take round of all wards.
5. in (Labor Room).

Please answer me quickly; I do not want to loss neither Salah nor such institute. Also, tell me "Can I remove cap and stop growing beard, as Director has told me that it is not essential (fard) and for lay man it is OK but such appearance does not suit a doctor, also it may adversely affect my future because patient, specially female and non-Muslim, will avoid me?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In some urgent and irregular circumstances, combining the prayers; Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha, is allowed if you do not take it as a habit. But refraining completely from praying during working hours is extremely prohibited. Also, you do not need to cover your head but you need to grow your beard. You can trim it but do not shave it completely.

On the other hand, there are thousands of practicing Muslim physicians like you here in the US and abroad who practice their religion freely and pray on time during their working hours, and without being abused or discriminated against by their employers!

From your side, you are expected not to spend a lot of time for praying and preparation for prayers. If your time is too limited, you can pray all the affiliated optional prayers at home and do only the obligatory ones.

Go ahead, take this job, and remember that whoever fears Allah, He will make a solution for him.

May Allah grant you steadfastness in applying your religion!

Question Aslamu alaikum
In periods, can females touch the Qur'an just for the sake of reading or if just read the Quran without touching it? Give some rulings for reading the Qur'an in those times?
Answer
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Both reciting the Qur'an and touching the Mus-haf are allowed during menstruation and post partum bleeding according to some scholars, and this is the most applicable and reasonable approach in this regard that I go with and adopt. The only exemption is when a person is in a Janabah (major impurity related to sexual discharge) or sexual impurity status, whether a male or female. In this case, touching the Mus-haf and even reciting Quran by heart is not allowed.

Question

As-Salamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh:

Have you heard that there is a book called "The True Furqan" is being published here in the USA? It is being distributed in the Kuwait. Here is the website that explains more: http://www.theamericanmuslim.org/tam.php/features/articles/the_true_furqan_quran_hoax/
To read the book, here is the link:
http://www.islam-exposed.org/furqan/contents.html
I don't know what to ask.

What do you say about such snake like reptilian treachery?
Answer
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Our job as Muslims is to explain to people that this is not the Quran. It is a fake and fabricated one. If there is a legal way complying with the law of the land to stop publishing and distributing this book, it has to be taken by those who are able to take it. Meanwhile, we need to remember that Allah (SWT) is the one who promised to conserve His words. He (SWT) said, (Verily, we are the one who reveled the Quran, and we preserve it).

Question Asalama Alaaikum respected scholars,
My question is regarding prayer. During prayer, after saying "sami Allahu lamin hamida" I say "rubana laka al hamd wa shukr." An Imam at a local mosque told us during a khutba that we are not supposed to say "wa shukr." Is this correct? Is it wrong to say it? I await your reply. Thank you so much for your service. God bless you. Salam!

Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

What your Imam told you is correct. It was never narrated that the Prophet PBUH said (we ash-shukr) in His prayer while going back to erect standing position after finishing His bowing down position.

Praying as a formal act of worship should be done according to the exact way narrated by the Prophet PBUH.

Question Assalamu alaikum.
Masha Allah you are doing wonderful work. May Allah bless you! My question is whether it is better to pray as soon as possible after the Adhan is called (which is the best time) or to wait for my husband to come home so I can pray in Jama`ah (which is better than praying alone). Thanks in advance for your answer
Answer
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

It depends on how late your husband will be home. If he takes too much time in which you delay the Salah significantly, then you should not wait for him, because the most beloved good deed to Allah (SWT) is praying on time. But if it is a matter of five or ten minutes, then you can wait for him to have the reward of praying in congregation (Jama`ah).

Question Salam,
Dear sheikh, how many times can you do Istikharah Prayer? I mean once week or daily and which time is the best for this prayer? Should one pray all five times or it doesn't matter?
Jazaka Allah Khayran

Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

You can pray Istikharah as much as you want until to finish the task or mission you are doing Istikharah for. Nothing has been mentioned in the Sunnah regarding the best time for this Salah to be performed.
