| Question |
Salams, I just wanted to ask regarding Ramadan and fasting times. This year Ramadan in the UK will be around 16 hours of fasting. My parents both work full time and must leave for work at 6 clock in morning, this means they must go to bed at around 9pm. (breaking fast/ magrib is at 8.30pm) They are worried this will affect their health and performance at work. However few years ago someone else who lives somewhere in the Scandinavian countries had also complained of a similar issue and a famous Islamic scholar on a Egyptian satellite channel stated there was a fatwa in these type of situations. The fatwa was fasting only half a day (12 hours), is this true? In another words the UK has long daylight and short night times.
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Questioner, this is a false fatwa. The correct answer to your question is whoever cannot perform fasting but with drastic hardship affecting his/her health or his/her regular, daily duties or affecting his/her only source of income significantly, it would be permissible to break the fast or not fast to begin with, and make up for those days after Ramadan. So your parents should review their situation and their special case and see if they fit these criteria, as there is no such thing in Fiqh as fasting half-day or a fraction of the day. Allah says, "The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful." (Al-Baqarah: 185)
May Allah Guide you and your parents to the best. Ameen.

| Question |
One of the ingredients in making chiffon cake is cream of tartar. Based on information, (1) Cream of Tartar is a natural, pure ingredient left behind after grape juice has fermented to wine, or (2) Cream of Tartar crystallises in wine casks during the fermentation of grape juice, and can precipitate out of wine in bottle. Is cream of tartar halal ?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Layla,
You should stay away from this ingredient because it came out of an unlawful source as its crystallization or precipitation is the result of unlawful processing (fermentation of grape juice), especially that these results occurred after the fermentation, not before it.
May Allah guide you. Ameen.

| Question |
Respected Scholars, Assalaam alaikom wa rahmat Allah wa Barakato! I want to know are Islamic swimsuits allowed? I've come across some websites selling them, do they meet the criteria for Muslim hijab?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Questioner,
As long as the swimsuit covers the whole body except the face and the hands and does not describe the shape or complexion of the body, it is permissible to swim with it in front of other women and the husband and the Mahrams (maharem, i.e. father, brother, son , uncle, etc.).
This fatwa is regarding this particular swimsuit. Meaning that this swimsuit can be worn under these circumstances when in public. However, in Fiqh, there are different limitations of the 'awra regarding in front of whom the garment is worn and where is worn, in public or in private.
May Allah guide us all.

| Question |
Assalamu `alaykum
Please answer my two doubts below:
1. Is Salah valid in front of a mirror?
2. Can we read Qur'an on computer without wudu'? Will this fetch less thawab?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Questioner,
1. It should be ok to pray in front of a mirror, as long as it does not distract you from your prayer.
2. Yes, you may read Qur'an from an electronic device without wudu' but without touching the verses on the screen. However, it is, indeed, more rewarding to read and hold the Qur'an with wudu'. This is because the more you show respect to the word of Allah, hopefully the more reward you will receive, inshaAllah.
May Allah accept your good deeds. Ameen.

Dear Ghali,
If most of their products are halal products and the haram products are very little or rare, then it should be Ok for you to work for the company. Calculate the percentage of the haram products, and try to donate that percentage out of your income to purify your rizq inshaAllah.
May Allah bless you and grant you halal. Ameen.

| Question |
Respected Scholars, Assalaam alaikom wa rahmat Allah wa Barakato!
I have been away from my family for three months and I have committed zina. I was given oral sex. I haven’t eaten or slept since the incident and I cry all the time. I am always praying and asking Allah for forgiveness and I have repented from my heart and soul for my sin. If I tell my wife I will loose her and my family and that will destroy me. What must I do to get forgiveness from Allah and NOT loose my wife and family?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Ahmed,
Do not tell anyone but Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. Repent to him sincerely and seriously and try to cover this major sin you have committed by a lot of worship and gaining good deeds. And do not let the shaytan (Satan) utilize for his own interest by discouraging from going back to Almighty Allah. Do not rely on your good deeds, but rely Allah's Mercy, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. Make Supplication to Allah, especially after midnight, asking him to purify you and to turn you to become his special worshipper and to cover you with His sitr here and in the hereafter. And do not forget us from your du'aa, because we believe that Allah is very close to the sincere repentant.
May Allah forgive all of us. Ameen.

| Question |
Dear Scholar,
Assalamu Alikum. I have this terrible thought in me that I am not happy when good things happen to others including my own siblings. I don't particularly wish for bad things for others, but it is just that I feel something in my heart negatively when good things happen to others. I know it is wrong and detrimental to feel like that but I can't seem to help it. I ask dua from Allah to let me overcome it, but I still feel like that. I am also quite competitive and want to be the best and have the best. Theses feelings are tarnishing my heart. I want feel pure and think pure. How can I achieve it
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Questioner,
This particular feeling comes when one of us refers unwillingly things to other than Allah subhanahu wa Ta'ala. For example, thinking that he is so rich because of his work, will, or effort. When you realize that everything is from Almighty Allah, firstly, you stop objecting and start accepting. Then when you think deeply about yourself and others, you turn to the field of thanking Him and appreciating His countless bounties upon you. Submit yourself to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala with complete pleasance. And remember this du'aa: Radeeto Bellahi Rabba, wa bel Islami Deena, wa be Muhammaden Nabeyyan wa Rasoola. And remember things can be judged by their seals and ends. So Ask Allah to seal your life and the lives of all Muslims with the best deed inshaAllah.
May Allah guide you and all Muslims. Ameen.

| Question |
As-salamu alaykum
I have been going through a particularly difficult time. My husband has lost his job and we are surviving on my income to pay all the expenses, all loans that we took, etc. he has been out of work for over a year now. Sometimes, if we talk about him finding work, the amount of debt we are in and so forth, we end up arguing and I guess I treat him quite badly verbally. I am losing respect for him and sometimes because of all the grief and arguments I feel I am better off without him. I feel bad for feeling this way, but can't help it. Is there any du`a I can recite to ease our situation and can you give some advise. Thank you.
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear Amira,
Do not destroy your marriage life by giving away your hope and faith in Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. A broken family is very difficult to fix. So instead of thinking of breaking up your family, think about maintaining your family by showing respect, appreciation, and patience. Remember the good days to give you encouragement and a new hope that if these good days happened once upon a time, they can happen again. Realize that this is a pure test from Allah. And real and true love clearly shows when bad times occur.
Ask Allah to sustain you and your husband and to give you the patience to pass these difficulties and tests with a good grade and rank inshaAllah. Make this du'aa everyday: "Allahumma enni A'oodho beka men al hammi wal hazan, wa men al 'ajzi wa kasal, wa a'odhu beka men al jobni wal bokhl wa men ghalabat aldayn wa qahr al rejaal"
May Allah comfort you and your husband and family. Ameen.

If my mom says that tell the truth to police about my father (beating my brother) otherwise she won't forgive her milk to us, what should we do? Please help.

Dear questioner,
If there no way to stop your father from treating your brother unhumanly and unislamically but to call the police, you may do so, meaning that all the methods and means (calling your local imam or some specialist, referring to his best friend, or family member, etc) to stop your father from doing this must be faded before taking the action to call the police.
May Allah help you all. Ameen.
