| Question |
As-salamu `alaikum. Could you please clarify what do you mean by the morally safe summer from an Islamic perspective?
|
| Answer |
Wa`alaykum As-Salaamu Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you for your question.
First, we should stress that Islam is not against recreation and taking vacations. After being burdened with work for a long time one has a strong desire to have some rest with his family. Some people travel to other countries, some travel to other cities in their own countries to spend the summer vacation.
Muslims are encouraged and recommended to spend this time in a useful way that draws them closer to Allah and keep them away from their vain desires and Satan. To this end, they should take care of many things which may turn their vacation to a sad memory, such as mixed gathering for no reason, accompanying bad people, etc.

| Question |
In your view, how can a Muslim remain safe regarding his manners in these hot summer days?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In all times and circumstances, a Muslim should stay away from all sources of temptations that affect one's behavior negatively. During summer, one must strike a balance between one's religious duties and enjoying summer in order to remain attached to one’s religion and safe from moral decline.
Summer is a great opportunity for Muslims of all ages and both sexes to do all sorts of beneficial activities: physical, intellectual, and spiritual.
Therefore, a Muslim man or woman should try their best to indulge more in some da`wah activities, take some courses and Islamic knowledge and spend their leisure time in lawful ways. They should try their best to maintain the ties of kinship that they might have neglected during the school year. They should be active in socializing with their neighbors and relatives. They have to be aware of haram (unlawful) things such as traveling to places of immorality or watching haram TV, videos, or films.

| Question |
It is almost impossible to find a woman-only beach or a man-only beach. Hence, it is a must that one goes to mixed beaches during summer time. Do you have Islamic alternatives to that? Do you think that a Muslim can enjoy the summer at the beach and remain sticking to the teachings of Islam at the same time?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thanks for your important question.
First of all, we would like to stress that in every country there are beaches where one can easily keep his morality intact as not all beaches are considered 'meat markets'. The Muslim who is keen to keep his morality intact can go to the beach accompanied by his family to enjoy water and fresh air at times where people are rarely found such as in the early morning, for example.
With this, we can say that every familyman who wants to enjoy the breeze of summer at beaches should avoid free-mixing with others in a way that jeopardize his morals, and put his deen at stake. Muslims who visit beaches should be a good example before others in religious commitment and moral elevation. They should in no way forget that they are Muslims who are supposed to be good ambassadors to their religion.
Having said this, we can say that it is a narrow view to restrict all that which is related to summer to visiting beaches as there are many other outlets where one can enjoy the summer. Places such as mountains or any other place that are enjoyable.

Thank you for your question. We pray Allah to make `Umrah easy for you.
We want to stress the point that by having a sincere intention to make `Umrah to please Allah, be sure that everything will go smoothly.
You are recommended to visit your doctor and seek his help. You can take an umbrella with you. You can carry water with you all the time. The Sacred Mosque is air-conditioned or at least there are fans everywhere. The atmosphere of sincere devotion to Allah will make you forget about the hot weather and encourage you to do more acts of worship such as praying extra Prayers, making lots of supplications, etc.

| Question |
Dear sirs,
Salam
Can you advise me how to memorize Qur'an in summer time?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thanks for your interesting question.
Indeed, it is a good initiative to try to memorize the Qur'an at the summer time as usually during summer one usually enjoys much time and living with the Qur'an in these summer days is a blessed endeavor that helps one earn a great reward from Allah.
With this in mind, we advise you to make use of the following helpful tips:
1. Try to be in the company of a reliable Hafiz of the Qur'an during the summer time, and let's agree with him on a personal level to help you memorize the Qur'an.
2. Be always serious and exert painstaking efforts to memorize by heart and study what you memorize as memorization without understanding the meaning will be of less help.
3. Try to search for Muslim societies attached to Islamic centers in your area of residence and follow their Qur'anic programs during the summer days as one of the basic jobs done by most of those societies is to help concerned Muslims memorize the Qur'an.
4. In your memorization, begin with the easiest chapters or Suras as this will be a good step in the right direction.

Can we make da`wah at beaches?

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you for your question.
Though it's not easy to practice da`wah at beaches, a Muslim should think of proper methods through which he can introduce Islam to other people.
Therefore, if a Muslim finds an opportunity to present Islam to others—even through his Islamic behavior—he has to do so.

Thank you for your question.
Let's first agree that by having a sincere intention to do any act that will draw you closer to Allah, Allah will help you a lot to do it.
You can go to bed early so as to be able to wake up for Fajr. Try to set the alarm to some minutes ahead of the Adhan so that you can pray Qiyam. Ask your wife to wake you up if she is used to getting up at that time.

| Question |
I used to fast Mondays and Thursdays in winter. However, in summer I find it so difficult because of the hot weather and long daytime. How can I compensate for not fasting the same days, as I did in winter?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thanks for your question.
May Allah reward you abundantly for observing voluntary fasting!.
First, we should keep in mind that what you do is something optional, and hence it is not obligatory on you to fast during the summer as long as you have not made a vow or nadhr to fast all Mondays and Thursdays in winter and summer.
With this in mind, we can say that there are many ways to compensate for lack of fasting during the summer days. This can be achieved by:
1. Helping other Muslims to make the best use of the summer time in a religious way.
2. Initiating useful programs that help the youth and the family spend the summer in a useful way.
3. Disseminating the fact that volunteerism is not only about fasting, but it far exceeds fasting to other forms. In other ways, we should utilize the summer time as a real time for true and genuine volunteerism.
4. Helping the members of the whole society to become more and more active citizens by building bridges with each other and achieving the highest level of morality in an attempt to purge our societies from all sources of vices and evils.
Finally, we should stress that fasting in hot days is a very praiseworthy act for people who can afford it as in this case it will be step towards self-discipline and true piety as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said, "Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allah, Allah will keep his face seventy years’ distance away from the Fire because of it.” (Reported by Muslim)
