Question Can a woman pray `Eid?
Answer In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother, thanks a lot for your question, and may you have a happy and blessed `Eid Al-Adha.

Regarding your question, praying `Eid is a Sunnah for both men and women. Every Muslim, man or woman, should be keen to do this great Sunnah so as to bring himself/herself nearer to Allah in these blessed days.

However, if a woman is in her period, or in post-natal bleeding period, then she cannot offer Prayer in such a state. She can go to the musalah, the place where Muslims offer `Eid Prayer, to witness the goodness of the occasion, but she should not enter the mosque.

Question As-Salamu `alaykum. My question is: If it is forbidden to cut hair and nails for whoever intends to give a sacrifice, then would it mean that all those pilgrims who arrive since the new moon of Dhul Hijjah should continue to remain in Ihram until the Hajj is over? Because they cannot cut their hair in the days of Dhul Hijjah and therefore cannot relieve themselves of Ihram, would it mean they must continue to be in Ihram until the days of sacrifice only then they can cut their hair and relieve themselves of Ihram?
Answer Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear sister, thanks for your question.

It seems that you confused two points. Therefore, let's clarify the following:

1. One who is intending to offer udhiyah is asked by the Sunnah not to cut his hair or nails from the beginning of Dhul Hijjah until he slaughters his udhiyah.

2. A pilgrim, who is offering Hajj or `Umrah, is not allowed to cut his hair or nails while he is in the state of Iharam.

Reflecting on the above points, it should be clear that one who is going to offer Hajj is required only to be in state of Ihram during the Hajj days if he is offering Hajj ifrad or tamattu`.

Question As-Salamu `alaykum. After the Farewell Sermon (Hajjatul Wada`), the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) dispersed across the world. Is there any evidence from Hadith that they fasted the day of `Arafah and celebrated `Eid according to the weekday of `Arafah of the Hujjaj in Makkah? Is there any evidence that the weekday they fasted `Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah) was different in different parts of the Islamic world during the time of Sahabah or Tabi`un (successors) and did not synchronize with the week day the pilgrims stood at `Arafah? Jazakum Allahu Khair!
Answer Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother Riyad, thanks a lot for your question.

Regarding your question, it is apparent it deals with a problem that Muslims all over the world face, particularly when deciding the beginning of Ramadan and days of `Eid Al-Fitr and `Eid Al-Adha.

Dearest brother, let's say that Muslims are required to be united in all aspects, not only in the above occasions. They should spare no efforts in achieving this unity.

As for the issue of sighting the new moon of the lunar months and whether all Muslim countries should be united in this regard or not, it should be clear that though there is a difference among Muslim jurists in this regard—and each party has its proofs—Muslims should prefer to stick to unity. Moreover, it is not acceptable at all for Muslims in a single country to be divided over the date of these occasions. At least Muslims in every country should unite themselves in deciding the beginning of Ramadan and the days of `Eids.

As for the issue of `Arafah, it is the day when pilgrims stand on the mount of `Arafah in the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. All Muslims should regard the Day of `Arafah the exact day when pilgrims in Saudi Arabia stand on the mount of `Arafah, the main pillar of Hajj.

Question I would like to ask a question which is a matter of discussion all the time; it is exactly about Islam and democracy and the controversy between them. I mean, do you think that there is no controversy (difference) between Islam and democracy? But if there is honesty what are those points and which one is more applicable and takes human to the prosperity? Thank you.
Answer In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Question As-Salamu `alaykum. If my husband went for Hajj, can I live in this time with my parents? They are Christians, but they respect Islam.
Answer Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear sister, thanks a lot for your question and may Allah return your husband back home safely and accept his Hajj, amen.

As for your question, it should be clear that Islam asks Muslims to be dutiful to their parents, whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims, provided that this dutifulness doesn't lead to disobeying Allah Almighty.

Therefore, you have to be dutiful to your parents and give them due attention and care.

As for your staying with your parents during your husband's absence, there is nothing wrong—as far as we know—to stay with them provided that you stick to Islamic teachings in all aspects and that you and your husband agree on this. It would be a chance to show them—through your practice and morals—the goodness and mercy of Islam. This is the best way, of course, to invite others to know more about Islam through translating its teachings into practice.

Question As-Salamu `alaykum. How can I encourage people to fast these blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah? Jazakum Allahu Khayran.
Answer

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear sister in Islam, thanks a lot for your question and we ask Allah Almighty to grant you happy and blessed `Eid Al-Adha.

In fact, the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah represent an annual chance, in which a faithful servant of Allah is to bring himself/herself nearer to Him, Most High. These are days of worship, Hajj, charity, peace, sacrifice, and good deeds.
It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) urged us to do good deeds during this time, and fasting is one of the best of deeds.
So, by your act of fasting these blessed days you will set a good example for other Muslim brothers and sisters in your community. You can encourage some Muslim sisters to observe fasting on these blessed days by inviting them on Iftar on some of days, providing them with articles, CDs or tapes on their merits and virtues. You can also accompany some sisters in your community to a nearby Islamic Center or Mosque where you can listen to a religious lesson or sermon on the best acts to be done on these blessed days.
Finally, we ask Allah to reward you for your good intention and to grant you happiness in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.

Question As-Salamu `alaykum. What does it mean when a person sees the Ka`ba in his dream?

Dearest brother, thanks for your question.

Though your dream seems to be of good indication, it is beyond our concern, as a Fatwa Desk, to interpret dreams.

All in all, we do advise you to spare no efforts to bring yourself closer to Allah in these blessed days by making more good deeds. If you could afford to go for Hajj, it will be very good and you will be greatly blessed and rewarded by Allah.

Question I want to know if I went to Hajj and I missed the day of `Arafat, is my Hajj null and void?
Answer In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dearest brother, thanks a lot for your question.

`Arafah is the main pillar of Hajj. The Prophet said in one of his hadiths that Hajj is [mainly based on standing on] `Arafah.
So, if a pilgrim misses standing on `Arafah, his Hajj will not be complete, and he will be asked to offer other Hajj.
