| Question |
Respected scholars of Islam, I have a friend who recently learned that intentional ejaculation of semen causes the fast to become void. In the past, he has practiced masturbation during fasting, which he now realizes, to be a forbidden act. Does he have to offer expiation and/or make up for those fasts? If yes, how? If the act is repeated in the future what is the ruling on that?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thanks for your question and we implore Allah to increase our knowledge about Islam, and guide us all to the best.
It was far better to mention the reason behind your friend being unaware of the Islamic ruling related to the issue you are talking about. Was it because your friend is a new convert and he is ignorant of similar issues? Was it because your friend is committing such an act while claiming to be ignorant of the ruling? Generally, your friend should make up for the day(s) in which he intentionally ejaculated semen in the daytime of Ramadan so as to abnegate himself of the responsibility before Allah for showing shortage in trying to know the Islamic ruling regarding a certain thing he committed.. This can be simply done by counting those days or even making an estimation and then making up for them.
In addition, we advise your friend to avoid the act of masturbation which is generally considered prohibited. The prohibition is much and much greater if one does that act in the daytime of Ramadan.
May Allah protect you and your friend from every evil and may He guide you always to the best.

| Question |
I remember reading that the Hanafi madhab may allow selling alcohol in a non-Muslim country by Muslims. What are the conditions and what is the proof of that ruling?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
As for your question, I would like to inform you that to the best of my knowledge there is no a such statement in the Hanafi madhab, thus, there is a consensus among scholars about the prohibition of selling or buying or drinking alcohol.
As you may know well, alcohol is prohibited and is considered as the mother of all sins and impurities as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
All in all, Muslims are not allowed to sell or buy or drink or even facilitate the process of selling or buying or transporting alcohol. Allah has prohibited the alcohol in the verses (5:90) This prohibition covers its selling and buying. Having said that, I shall point to you that there should be no consideration to any view or opinion that allows selling or buying alcohol to or for Muslims or non Muslims

| Question |
We have heard about a Canadian Muslim group in Toronto endorsing same sex marriage legislation. The legislation calls for re-defining marriage to include same-sex partners. The president of the Muslim Canadian Congress, a Toronto-based grassroots organization, stated that, "It is incumbent upon us, as a minority, to stand up in solidarity with Canada’s gays and lesbians despite the fact that many in our community believe our religion does not condone homosexuality.
Could you please furnish us with a detailed fatwa about the above declaration? Are Muslim in need to redefine marriage to include same-sex partner? How to deal with such an intricate issue from an Islamic perspective?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you. May Allah guide and protect Islam and Muslims all over the world.
Indeed, I am not aware about this position of Muslims in Canada. However, I merely doubt that a Muslim who believes in Allah and His Messenger would have a such shameful and very disturbing and ridiculous position. Thus, it is a common knowledge that homosexuality is prohibited and condemned by Islam for good.
There are hundreds of verses and hadiths that condemn and consider such an act as very horrible and inhuman in its nature.
Therefore, I shall call upon those people who might have confused themselves and ashamed Islam by supporting a such terrible crime against the nature and morality. It is a big sin to just believe in legitimacy or legality of this act.
Moreover, it is forbidden for a sane and mature Muslim to support this type of movement. There is no a consideration to all those ridiculous reasons given to support this movement.
Furthermore, the marriage in Islam needs not to be re-defined to suit the un-natural and immoral desire of defiant and lost people rather it needs to be protected by all means and ways. Muslims in Canada or elsewhere should not hide the position of their religion and all respected religions in the world about this act.

| Question |
How many hours should a Muslim set aside for sleep per day? And what was the daily routine of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of God be upon him) in this regard?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you.
Islam calls upon Muslims to organize themselves and have better management of their time.
Normal sleeping and relaxing is considered as a duty upon all tired persons as Allah recommended it in the verses: 25:47, 78:9.
In this regard, one should have enough sleep and relax whenever he or she needs to do so. Furthermore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did strongly recommend a sleepy person to have enough sleep before praying. In other words, if you feel sleepy and you haven’t prayed, it is recommended that you sleep first and perform prayers later. This doesn't mean you have to miss your prayers, but rather to organize and manage your sleeping and prayers in advance.
As for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there is no record about his daily routine as far as sleeping is concerned, but it is well known that he used to sleep and relax whenever he is tired.
All in all, the length of sleeping depends on one’s individual situation and there is no harm to set up a specific routine in this matter, thus the Prophetic practice in this issue is not considered as a part of religion but as a part of culture and tradition.

| Question |
Could you please shed more light on the role that should be played by Muslim to support their fellow Iranians who were hit recently by a destructive earthquake? How to help those poor Iranians? Can we pay the Zakah to rescue them?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you very much.
Let us pray that Allah Almighty accept those beloved brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the recent earthquake in Iran among martyrs. It is really so a painful and difficult moment for their families and relatives.
All Muslims should share their pain and sadness. They deserve our assistance and support in all possible means. For sure we shall not forget them in our prayers and du`aa’.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did one day say: “Whoever doesn’t care about the affairs of his or her fellow Muslims, he or she isn’t among them.”
He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “Muslims are in their mutual love and compassion like a single body, whenever a part of it suffers the whole part will suffer and share the agony and pain.”
Let us feel and share the pain and hard time of our fellow Iranian Muslims broth brothers and sisters. As for giving zakah, there is no prohibition in doing so provided that it reaches the legal recipients.

| Question |
The last couple of month, I have been thinking about that small things I used to steal from family and friends. What should I do about such things in addition to asking Allah for forgiveness?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you. May Allah forgive you and accept your repentance to Him.
Do refrain from stealing again. If you do have some of those items you took, you need to return them to their owners.
Surely, you should find the best way of returning by avoiding any way that might put you in difficult or shameful situation.
Do seek directly or indirectly the forgiveness of your victims as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: “The repentant from sins is like sinless person.” In other words, the repentance would clear you from your sins with the condition that you don’t repeat the same sin and you do good deeds and seek the forgiveness of Allah all the time.

| Question |
As-Salamu `alaykum. The issue that I want to discuss is whether my money is halal or haram.
I am getting a benefit from an organization in United Kingdom that supports unemployed people by giving them money. This support continues until that person finds a job. Once the person found a job the support stops. The condition that one must meet to be entitled to receive this benefit is that the person must allocate huge amount of time searching for the jobs they want. Therefore, one must not be enrolled in a studying course (for example) that takes him/her more than 15 hours per week. There are other obvious conditions, such as not taking the benefit while you’re working.
My situation is that I am unemployed (so I need the money) and studying at a university less than 15 hours a week. I do sometimes search for jobs, but not as hard as I suppose to. The thing is that I am not willing to work now, because I want to graduate and then find a job in the same field of my degree course. There are three months left for my graduation.
After the three months I will start searching as hard as possible. My questions: Is this money halal for me to take? If not, what do I do with any saving I made from that money? Thank you.
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you. If I correctly understand your question, your money is not haram. However, you should do your level of best to search for suitable and greater job and you should be serious and strong believer in Allah.
I shall call upon you to study hard and excel in your studies. Islam and Muslims need more knowledgeable and hard working people especially those who have potentials like your yourself. I pray to Allah to protect you and give you more strength and power.

| Question |
I heard you told the brother that masturbation is haram but in this site I thought it was ok for valid reasons. Any comment?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you. I did clearly and repeatedly say that masturbation is forbidden and prohibited, thus it leads to so many health problems and it is also against the nature and teachings of Islam which has put clear methods of satisfying the sexual desire through normal and legal marriage.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do call upon capable young people to get married as soon as they can, thus marriage is a protection for both genders.
Muslim communities should do their level of best to facilitate the procedures of marriage and they should be flexible and reasonable when it comes to marriage. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did stated that, “If a morally committed Muslim comes to you and wishes to marry, do marry him otherwise you will face destruction and so many disasters.” That means Muslims communities should help those who are in need and interested in marriage. Certainly, marriage will put a quick end to masturbation.

| Question |
Dear scholar, I have a daughter who just turn 6 months and gave birth through a C-Section. I just found out that I'm pregnant again possibly 5 weeks and my husband wants me to get rid of it because he feels it would be dangerous to my health due to the closeness of pregnancies.
Also, due to financial issues and other things he continues to stress it. I personally don't believe in abortion, but his mother also told him that it will bring health problems to me and the baby so he continues to insist.
My question is should I have an abortion? Or should I leave Allah’s wills and continue against my husband’s will?
I'm unaware of how long it takes for the C-section to completely recover and I know for a fact that I have rupture one of the inside stitches when I came home after having a laugh attack. Please advice.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you. May Allah protect your new born and give her long life and good health.
Islam prohibits abortion for the fear of poverty or the so-called financial reasons. Thus, Allah has prohibited a such move in the verses (17:31, 6:151).
Furthermore, each child would have his or her rizq as clearly stated by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that no one would die before he or she has his or her full rizq. Therefore, do believe in Allah and do look for your rizq nicely.
Having said that, I shall recommend you and your beloved husband to refer to a trustworthy medical doctor in order to know the expected danger of having a child now with your health condition. If the medical doctor advises you to abort it for the sake of your health, then there is no harm of doing so. Otherwise, you should find ways and means to convince your husband and his mum. They should remember that there are so many people who are looking terribly for kids and spending thousands and thousands to have a kid. Therefore, they have to be thankful to Allah and avoid any thing might cause the anger of the Almighty.

| Question |
A Christian website www.world-war-2-holocaust.org charged against the Qur’an that: 1.Did Allah raise up an astounding virgin born, miracle working prophet/apostle/Messiah messenger of Islam only to have his ministry wrecked and his Message almost immediately twisted and perverted by religious charlatans?
Was Allah impotent to prevent the spiritual damnation of nineteen hundred years worth of misguided souls pulled down into the fires of hell by the black-hearted heresy of Apostles' Creed Christianity?
2. It was clear that the main purpose of the ministry of Jesus was to “confirm” the Torah to the Jews. However, this was a mission that was not needed at that time. The Jews already recognized the Torah as revelation from God, and were practicing the Law of Moses completely and faithfully; so faithfully that the pagan Romans had to massively invade Judea, wreck Jerusalem , destroy the Temple and cast the Jews into worldwide Diaspora to prevent them from successfully revolting against the authority of Rome . Would Allah need to raise up a virgin born prophet in Makkah today to confirm the Qur’an to Muslims? No! They already recognize it. Would such a ministry be needed to convince Muslims to practice the pillars of Islam? Again, no! They already practice it with zeal. Such was the case with the Mosaic Jews two thousand years ago. So the Prophetic ministry of Jesus was unneeded and accomplished nothing, especially since Allah was soon to cancel, contradict or ignore virtually everything about the Torah and Mosaic Judaism- the very things being confirmed in the Qur’an ! If the Torah of the Bible is not the same as the Torah originally revealed by Allah, then all the more reason to explicitly state this vitally important fact in the Qur’an and make all due corrections. It is obliquity for the Koran to have Jesus confirming the Torah if Christians think that he was confirming the Biblical Torah.

| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you.
Indeed, your question contains a lot of unfounded claims and statements. To me I do consider your statements as personal views and ideas and they don't have any thing to with Torah, Bible and the Qur'an. These books fully contradict whatever you claimed, therefore, I am full of hope that you state us your sources and references, then I would be in better position to answer your question.
Till then, I shall pray to Allah to guide you and give you courage to read the Qur'an carefully and honestly. I am confident that will help you to correct many of your allegations and claims.
Allah Almighty knows best.
