| Question |
How can I enhance my spirituality after Hajj?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
As for enhancing our spirituality, we should first remember that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) promised the pious Muslims who perfect their Hajj that they will come as free from sins and bad deeds as the day they were born. This leads a person to think that he or she must start a new life after Hajj. To achieve that, you should focus on three important things:
1. We should make sure that our life changes to the better. The most important thing to start with is Salah, to pray regularly and with the Jama’ah.
2. We should know that remember iman increases with good deeds and decreases with bad deeds. So we should try our best to do as much good deeds as we can in order to keep our iman or spirituality up all the time. The best thing to do that is to commit yourself to attending regular halaqa with people studying the Qur’an and Sunnah of the Prophet. And along with halaqa is to train yourself to fast, at least 3 days each month.
3. We should always have muhasabah or daily reckoning to ourselves. Muhasabah mean that each Muslim should evaluate his actions at the end of the day, to see if he gained or lost.

| Question |
Can a person change the clothing of Ihram in order to wash them? Jazakum Allah khayran.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Yes, it is allowed to do so. Uniform of Ihram is meant for the clothing itself, so a Muslim can change them if he needs, can wash them if they get dirty. However, a Muslim can get out of the uniform completely unless the due time comes.

| Question |
Why is throwing the Jamarat considered as a part of Hajj while it is not mentioned in the Quran per se? Jazakum Allah khayran.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
There are two things to mention here:
1. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Perform Hajj the way you see me performing it.” And it has been reported with authentic narration that the Prophet was riding his camel and throwing Jamarat in Hajj. Besides, around 120, 000 Muslims performed Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and they described in detail what they saw and learned from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
2. The whole idea of Hajj is the memory of Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him). Throwing the Jamarat is a symbol to our struggle against the Satan who tried to deviate Ibrahim from his mission, and is keeping doing so with us. So, we should renew our commitment about fighting and resisting the Satan by throwing the Jamarat.

| Question |
We are a big family living in the same house and eating together. Our family consists of the parents and a number of married children. Is it permissible to make one udhiyah or a sacrificial animal for us all? Jazakum Allah Khairan!
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Udhiyah is a stressed Sunnah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In principle, the Muslim makes udhiyah for his own family and not for the others.
Thus, if you are more than one family living together and you have the ability to make more than one udhiyah, then it is better. If not, then you can share in making one udhiyah.

| Question |
There is no doubt that the circumambulation known as ifadhah is one of the pillars and essential acts of the Hajj. If the menstruating women did not perform it due to lack of time and the time was not such that she could wait for her menses to end, what is the ruling concerning that? Jazakum Allah khayran.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Tawaful-`Ifadhah is a basic pillar in the Hajj. A Muslim must do it, however, Allah Almighty says in the Qur’an: “He (Allah) does not want to put hardship on you regarding this religion.” (Al-Hajj: 78)
Based on this, some scholars are of the opinion that if a woman is in her period and she cannot wait (like nowadays if she has to leave with a group or if she would miss her flight, etc.), she is allowed, based on the rule of necessity in Islam, to make tawaful-`ifadhah after making sure that she is cleaning herself. This opinion was held by Ibn Taymiyya and the Hanbali school of thought, and it is has been followed in the contemporary time by the late Sheikhs Ibn Al-`Uthaimeen and Ibn Baz.

| Question |
My family is living in the US and I would like to know if it is permissible to make udhiyah via the Internet taking into consideration that this company is well known and acknowledged in America and is distributing the meat on the needy Muslim countries.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Udhiyah is a confirmed Sunnah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). A Muslim can make udhiyah by himself or appoint someone else to do it on his behalf, as many people do in hajj in paying an organization or institution to slaughter the hady for them.
Scholars of Islam have said that it is allowed for a person to make the udhiyah by himself or appoint someone else to do it on his behalf as long as it is slaughtered during the 3 days of tashreeq.
So, if you know that this online organization is aware of these rulings and they are trustworthy, then it is allowed.

| Question |
I know that my question is not relevant to today’s subject which is Hajj, but I would apologize and beg you to answer it as I think it is very urgent.
I am 27 man. I came from Africa as a refugee to the UK. Al-hamdulillah, I lived here for the last five years studying.
Since I am getting older and also to many temptations in this country, I decided to get married. I have been looking for a pious Muslim girl to marry who is also from my tribe for a long time. Finally, I found a girl who is from my tribe and who is pious and she is well-educated about Islam to my satisfaction.
It is a rare thing to get such a girl from my tribe because my tribe is well-known for its opposition in educating woman in any subject. However, since we are in the UK, some girls in my tribe have started studying and this particular one has proved to be the most hard working and pious.
I have never spoken to the girl and she does not know of my intentions but her brother is my friend and I think her brother will be a good reference for me. I did not want to start the process before I consulted my father.
When I asked my father, he was against it. He said he was not against the girl but against marrying in this country and he thinks it is wrong to marry in a non-Muslim country and he also believes that it is haram to live in non-Muslim country because of the environment could change our faith. He tells me that I should travel and go to a Muslim country to start my life there. My mother completely is supporting my marriage and she is trying to convince my father but he does not listen. He says he only wants what is good for us. He thinks he will be sinning if he allows my marriage. He does take any fatwa from any Sheikh except himself or some Sheikh in my country the type of Sheikh who say it is haram to live in the west.
I think if I miss marrying this girl it will be very hard to find another pious girl since there are not many pious girls in my tribe and my father insist I marry someone from my tribe.
This girl has been proposed to by many but she rejected them because she believed that they were not religious.
I am concerned and do not want to miss this girl. I want to get married because I am tired of living single.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
The concept that a Muslim cannot marry in the lands of disbelieves is contradictory to the Sunnah. It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Ramlah Bint Abi Sufyan in the land of Al-Habashah. It is also reported that the companions of the Prophet went to countries where they lived as minority with people of different faiths, like in Nuba, Habasha, etc. and they married there. So, the idea of only marrying in the lands of Muslims is wrong.
Now coming to the question of marriage, I would base my view on the general principles of the Shari’ah. What the father is doing here has no basis in Islam, while the obedience to anyone is only in matter of goodness. So, you should show respect to your dad but at the same time, if you want to preserve your chastity and you have found the righteous girl that will keep you closer to Allah, you can marry her and keep on having good relations with your father.

| Question |
I might have my monthly menstrual period during the Hajj, how will I perform the Hajj rituals and does it mean that I am not eligible for the Hajj?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
An authentic report mentions that `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj and she had her period during Hajj. She felt upset that she cried and thought she missed Hajj, while the Prophet told her to do whatever the pilgrims do except the tawaf.
So, if a woman gets her period during Hajj, she should only avoid tawaf, but she can make tawaf al ifadah in case of necessity as we mentioned earlier in an answer to a previous question.
In this case, the woman can only make Hajj ifrad not tamatu’, but if she got pure before Arafah, she can make intention of tamatu’.

I would like to tell you that I stay with non-Muslims people as we share an a apartment and I am seeing that I am loosing interest in praying and dhikr. Could you please advise me how to come over keeping in mind that I cannot move to another apartment.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
The best and most effective solution to your case is to be around believers that will help you save your deen. The authentic Hadith states that a good companion is the one you benefit from, and a bad companion is he that you lose because of him. So you must look for good Muslim company that helps you preserve your iman.
If this is not possible at least in this time, then you have no reason at all to shy away and miss your Salah. It would rather say you will be appreciated by your roommates if you respect your faith. And if some of them are Muslims but they are not practicing, then you should influence them. You should remember the Hadith, "Whoever is pleased with his good deeds and hurt with bad deeds, it is a sign of faith.”

| Question |
I have been told that the first time I lay eyes on the Ka'bah, I should make a wish and it will be granted. How correct and true is that statement?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
May Allah accept your Hajj and visit to the Masjid of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Regarding the Hadith that when we see the ka'bah we should make a du’a’ and our wish will be granted by Allah, Imam Nawwai in his book Manasik al Hajj reported it is recommended when we see the ka'bah the first time that we raise our hands and make a du’a’ saying: "Allahumma zid hatha al bayta tashrifan wa ta'atheeman wa mahabatan, wa zid man sharraffahu wa ath-thamahu minman hajjahu wa a'atmarahu tashrifan wa takreman wa ta'atheeman wa berran”, and he should add: “Allahumma antal salam wa minka al salam faa’hayena rabbana bil salam"
The Hadith Imam Nawwai narrated that Imam Ibn Majah had reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The gates of Haven open and the du’a’ (wish) of the Muslim will be granted when he/she sees the ka'bah the first time and make a du’a’.
How sound the Hadith narrated, I am not sure but it is mentioned in many hadiths that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a Muslim prays to and ask Allah sincerely, Allah will answer his/her du’a’.
It is also a well-established fact that visiting the House of Allah is the greatest act, and it is best place in the whole earth; Allah is also kareem (generous) and He will answer our prayers .
Please remember me and my family in your du’a’.

| Question |
How is wearing scarf? Is it ok?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Regarding wearing scarf or Hijab, it is fard, meaning it is obligatory and mandated by Allah and His Messenger that when women reach the age of puberty they have to cover their hair and wear proper and modest clothes. There are many books on Hijab, and I suggest that you read a book on Hijab, or visit islamonline fatwa bank to learn more about the Islamic dress code for women.
