| Question |
How can a Muslim enhances his faith after performing Hajj? Any tips will be very much appreciated?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Hajj as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said in the hadith, purifies sins and makes a person like a new born and thus closer to Allah. It is therefore important for a Haji to try his/her best to preserve this pure state as best as he can; here are few tips that should up us achieve this:
1. Try to be consistent in dhikr, for dhikr helps us to come closer to the Lord; it also repels Satan;
2. Remain steadfast in performance of Salah and other religious duties;
3. Read and ponder the Qur'an on a daily basis;
4. Keep company with righteous Muslims;
5. Occupy time in good deeds as much as possible;
6. Pray to Allah to make your heart steadfast on His obedience in the manner of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by using the following du'a’:
Allaahumma yaa muqalliba al-quloobi thabbit qalbee alaa ta'atika.
(O Allah! You are the twister of hearts! Make my heart firm on obedience to You!).

| Question |
I wear Hijab. In a case which I will describe below, I would like to know whether I can remove it or not.
I would like to apply for immigrating to Canada together with my family because we want to give proper education to our children. We are told that if we apply with me wearing the Hijab, chances to win are almost 0%. So can I submit my photo without Hijab and go to one interview without Hijab. As well when I arrive to the Canadian airport I will be presented once without Hijab. Is this allowed taking into consideration my good intention?
In Albania, education is terrible, life is terrible. Therefore, I have to do something for me and my children. Please let me know. May Allah reward you.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
You are not allowed to take off Hijab for applying for immigration to Canada, for in Canada there is no ban on Hijab.
Muslim women have been wearing Hijab before and after entering Canada without any problem whatsoever. Canadian Charter of Rights guarantees equal rights to all its citizens; so in this case, you do not face any such pressure that would allow you to take off your Hijab. In case you are discriminated against because of wearing Hijab, you have access to courts.
So I don't think yours is a situation that would legitimize taking off Hijab. Often times, people merely act on rumor, rather than making judgments based on facts.
In occlusion: You should wear Hijab and make sure to complete all other requirements and trust in Allah; after all, it is Allah who is in charge of the hearts! So trust in Him, and you will succeed with His help! May Allah grant you strength in your religious conviction and make you sufficient with His obedience, aameen.

| Question |
Now, the Hijab ban in France has become a reality. Girls will be banned from wearing their Hijab when they reach their schools. What are the alternatives you suggest for French Muslim girls? Can they wear the Bandana instead? What shall they do?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Muslims in France are facing trials in their religion; their case is in many ways comparable to what the Prophets of Allah faced in their own times. They should therefore continue the struggle by remaining steadfast to the principles and trusting that ultimately victory belongs to those who are truly conscious of Allah.
In case life becomes unbearable under the new laws, Muslim women are allowed to go to the best possible alternatives available to them; if wearing Bandana is the only option they are allowed to do that, for it fulfills some requirements of Hijab, while keeping in mind that it is not a full substitute for Hijab, since it does not cover the neck. But until such time that the pressure is on, they are allowed to wear it to the school or other places where Hijab is banned.
While resorting to this option, they should also do the following:
1. Never acquiesce in taking off Hijab nor relish it, for doing so is akin to rejoicing in disobeying Allah;
2. Exert pressure on the government by using all constitutional and legal means to get the unjust law changed;
3. Keep the issue alive in the media;
4. Forge alliances with all peace-loving and democratic elements in France and outside to cooperate on fighting for human rights;
5. Unify the community on beneficial goals and projects that are relevant to the time and place, and thus project a common front;
6. Pray to Allah to help us remain steadfast in our struggle for truth and justice and to grant victory in all our endeavors.

| Question |
It has become clear now that Muslims can’t be able to resist the Hijab ban in France save after one year as this is a stipulation in the decree issued by the French Parliament yesterday. The question is: Can Muslims in France continue their civil disobedience campaign for a whole year so as to press the French public opinion to hearken to their demands?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Muslims must struggle as best as they can given the circumstances to get the law changed by using all the legal and constitutional means at their disposal. For further details see the previous answer.

| Question |
Is it a must that the male shouldn't wear under garments while in the status of Ihram?
I'm asking this question because due to the heavy rush and people trying to go ahead, sometimes the Ihram clothes would come off. I've seen a person who lost his Ihram in the rush and was running for his life and fortunately one of Hajis gave his upper Ihram to that person.
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Generally speaking, the rule is to forbid wearing underwear for male pilgrims; the only exception is when faced with exceptional medical situations. If one wears it for other reasons then it amounts to a breach of Ihram and it calls for compensation: offering a sacrifice.

| Question |
As-Salamu `alaykum brothers and sisters in Islam.
I would like to know when we recite Subhanallah, alhamdulillah and Allahu akbar, how many times we should recite? Is it 33,33,33 or 33,33,34?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
You may recite subhaana Allah, al-hamdu li Allah thirty three times each and then allaahu akbar thirty four times; or recite each of the above three formulas thirty three times, and then say the following to make it hundred:
Laa ilaaha illa Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lahu lahu al-mulku walahu al-hamdu wa huwa alaa kulli shayin qadeer
(There is no god but Allah; He is One and has no partner; all power and all praise belong to Him; He has absolute control over all things!).

| Question |
As-Salamu `alaykum. My question: Is it allowed to perform Hajj for my father-in-law which passed away a few years ago and he didn't perform neither Hajj nor `Umrah.
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
I performed Hajj in 2002 for myself and it was a really difficult but wonderful journey not to compare with another place.
I commend you for your spirit of generosity and kindness towards your deceased father in law; may Allah reward you for it.
Coming to your question, yes you are indeed allowed to do Hajj on his behalf since you have already done it on your own behalf.
May Allah help you to remain steadfast in your faith and practice-aameen.

| Question |
Dear Sheikh,
As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhuh.
At the last Hajj, during the stoning or the rajm of the big jamrah on `Eidul-Adha, I had 7 pebbles in my left hand.
I tried to move forward to the pillar. Until I certain moment, I couldn’t move any further and people behind me already started throwing pebbles. Therefore, I also decided to start throwing my collected pebbles. However, peoples were pushing me around and I had the feeling that I might have dropped 1 or 2 pebbles, but I wasn’t sure about that (it was too crowded to look down on the ground too see if I had indeed dropped a pebble).
I didn’t count the pebbles which I threw, I assumed that I threw 7 pebbles and left the place (people were already crushed to dead at that moment) and went to Makkah for halaqah and tawaful-ifadah.
My question is: do I need to pay fidyah (slaughtering a sheep) or should I just ignore my feelings as I was sure that I had 7 pebbles and certainty has prevalence over doubt and that my Hajj is accepted, in sha’ Allah?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
You need not worry about the validity of your performance of the ritual of pelting; you have done the best in the given circumstance; therefore, it shall be considered as valid.
So you need only to ask forgiveness of Allah for any unintentional slips and to accept your Hajj. Remember as Allah states in the Qur'an, He does not burden a soul with something beyond his or her ability to perform.
I pray that Allah accepts your Hajj and grant you His pleasure in both worlds-aameen.

| Question |
As-Salamu `alaykum. My question is not related to the topic. All my father's money is in banks and it's our only source of income. Is the money coming from banks haram and what shall we do in this case?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
You cannot consider all of your father's money deposited in the bank as haram; since what he has deposited there is his own; the interest that accrues on the amount, however, is considered haram. He is allowed to use his money without any problem, but the interest accumulated in the account, however, is haram and therefore he is not allowed to use it.
So never utilize the interest on yourself or your family; take it out and give it away to charities.

| Question |
I performed Hajj when I was just 8 years old with my parents. My question to you is, will my Hajj be accepted by Allah Almighty? At that time, I didn't even knew to perform Salah properly and I, as you can imagine from my age, was so unaware of the whole process. Do I have to perform another Hajj?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
The Hajj you performed as a child is accepted and rewarded for. But it does not substitute for the Hajj which becomes obligatory on you when you attain adulthood.
When you performed Hajj as a child, Hajj had not been a fard on you.
Hajj becomes fard on you only after you become an adult--provided you become physically and financially able to perform it. Therefore, if you are in this category you need to do Hajj again.
May Allah help you to attain your goal-aameen.

| Question |
As-Salamu `alaykum. What about school camps for children? When I was young, I went with my school to England and to Italy. It was very pleasant for me to travel with my school friends. In England, I even stayed with an English family who was very nice to me. My Arab husband is totally against it. I for myself have confidence in the teachers and have made the experience that there is nothing wrong with school camps. What is the Islamic point of view?
|
| Answer |
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
If the school camps are organized and supervised by those who are conscious of Allah and with sound morals and ethics, and therefore careful about halal and haram in male-female interaction, it is going to be rewarding intellectually, socially and spiritually; if, however, that is not the case, and the people who are in charge of them rather secular and permissive in their mindset and practices, then no Muslim can condone them, for they would entail promiscuity and vices.
May Allah help us relish faith and good works and make us abhor infidelity and vices of all sorts-aameen.

| Question |
Is there any restriction in Islam for Muslim women to drive car?
|
| Answer |
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
I don't see anything wrong in it; How is it different from women managing business and running their own affairs independently of men, which is definitely allowed, according to the consensus.
We have so many precedents for this in the lifetime of the Prophet and the pious caliphs. If `Umar can appoint a woman to be inspector of markets, for both men and women, then what is preventing woman from driving a car; I don't think any jurist of the past has barred woman from riding a camel.
Finally, it is important to remember that prohibition in Islam is harder than permission; for permission is the rule and prohibition is an exception. In other words, we are not allowed to prohibit without an explicit evidence in the texts. If so, where is the evidence for the so called prohibition?
Allah Almighty knows best.
