Altaf Husain is an Asian American, having been born in Sholapur, India and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. His father's family originates from Hyderabad, a historic city with tremendous Muslim roots, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. His mother's family is settled throughout the state of Maharashtra, namely in Pune, Mumbai and Sholapur.
Altaf Husain has contributed to the development of IslamOnline.net in various capacities since its inception. He is a doctoral candidate at the School of Social Work, Howard University, focusing on Muslim immigrants' and refugees' adaptation to the challenges they face in the United States.
He served one term as president of the Muslim Students' Association of the United States and Canada (MSA National).
He serves on the board of advisers of MSA National, and he is a team member of COMPASS, MSA National's management training program.
