Selma Cook became a Muslim in 1988 in her native country of Australia. She migrated to Egypt in 1993. Now a mother of five, she works at IslamOnline. She has written a book about her journey to Islam called ‘The Miracles of My Life,’ an Islamic poetry book called ‘The Light of Submission,’ as well as the Miss Moppy series (Islamic stories for children). She has recently published her first Islamic novel for teenagers called ‘Buried Treasure’ which is the first in the ‘Amirah Stevenson series’.
Her interest in Youth work goes back many years. During the first few years after becoming a Muslim, she organized activities for Muslim girls who came from a wide variety of nationalities and backgrounds. In Egypt, she designed and implemented Summer School Programs for teenage girls.
She hopes to facilitate volunteer work and promote the development of services and resources for the youth.
AElfwine Mischler:
AElfwine Mischler is an American convert, has an M.A. in Linguistics and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, a B.A. in English, and an A.S. in Physics.
She was raised as a Roman Catholic and attended Catholic schools. She embraced Islam in 1981 while studying for her Masters Degree.
She taught in Islamic schools in California and for a time was copy editor of an Islamic magazine. She married an Egyptian in 1984.
She moved with her husband and children to Cairo in 1992. She has taught in schools there and has revised the language in numerous English translations of Islamic books and software programs.
She has also worked with an Islamic non-profit organization and was one of its representatives at a UN conference.
She is currently wthe head of IslamOnline.net's copyediting unit, and is also a consultant in the Ask About Islam page.
