While Danish Muslims have started to show some signs of recovery from the 2005's Danish cartoons crisis ¯where 12 cartoons portraying the Prophet Mohamed (peace and blessings be upon him) published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten led to Muslim rioting, it seems that their memories would be soon refreshed by the release of a new book entitled The Cartoons That Shook the World.
The attention drawn to this book is not only out of its scope -the causes of Muslim protests against the cartoons along with some looks into the Danish and Muslim Government responses, but also for the fact that the book's publisher, Yale University Press, has backed down from including the reproduction and illustrations in the book, saying its advisers have advised against it.
In an attempt to engage our audience in a healthy debate over this new book and its expected influence before another cycle of anger among Danish Muslims would spark off, we are inviting the book's author, Jytte Klausen, the Professor of the Department of Politics at Brandeis University and the affiliate of Center for European Studies at Harvard University, to elaborate on the purpose of this book (whether with the cartoons reprinted in it or not).
While Klausen believes that the renewed controversy over use of images in her book says a lot about self-censorship among institutions and about fears in the West over what some Muslims are likely to do, there is no doubt Muslims in Europe have proved themselves as quick learners who are driven by peaceful thoughts when comparing their reactions towards 2005's Danish cartoons crisis with those to 2008's Fitna movie crisis.
If you have any comments, thoughts, or /and questions to the The Cartoons That Shook the World 's author, just join us live at 17:30 Makkah time, 14:30 GMT, or send your questions ahead of time to European Muslims and we will send back to you Kalusen's responses.
