Do We Still Need the Sunnah?

Nowadays, there is a heated debate among intellectuals, thinkers and scholars regarding the Sunnah and its position in Islamic Shari`ah. Though some intellectuals argue that the Qur'an is sufficient for Muslims, others uphold the view that Sunnah is part and parcel of Islamic Shari`ah.

Name: Sano Koutoub Moustapha.
Born in 10 April, 1966 Kankan, Republic of Guinea, West Africa.

-Dr. Sano is the Deputy Chairman for the International Fiqh Academy.

He is also a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy attached to the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

-A member of the American Shari`ah Academy.

-A professor of Fiqh and comparative principles of Fiqh.

-Director of the International Institute of Muslim Unity.

Academic Qualifications:

-Doctor of Philosophy in Laws (PhD) with distinction and recommendation for publication and translation of the thesis. International Islamic University, Malaysia 1996.

-Master of Art (M.A.) in Comparative Jurisprudence with grade “Excellent”, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia 1992.

-Post-Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance with grade “Good”, International Islamic University, Malaysia 1999.

-Bachelor of Education in Comparative Jurisprudence with grade “Excellent” and First Class Honors”, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia 1990.

-Higher Diploma in French Language with grade “Very Good”, The Ministry of Education, France 1991.

-Diploma in Arabic Language with grade “Excellent”, The Institute of Arabic Language, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia 1986.
