My eyes feel really tired, especially in the morning. They feel heavy and a bit weak. What can I do to wake up without this heavy feeling around my eyes?
Answer
There are a lot of possibilities to explain your symptoms, you may be suffering from dry eyes which makes it difficult to open your eyes in the morning. This is aggravated if you do not have enough sleep or if you smoke in the bedroom. I would advise you to use lubricant eye drops with Artificial Tears Solution as the active ingredient.
Have you had your eyes checked recently?? You may be suffering from long-sightedness or other problems that can not be discovered except by an eye examination.

What kind of eye-allergies can be expected in spring? How can we protect ourselves from these?
Answer
Many of the plants produce pollen in spring. These easily spread in the air and are known for allergic reactions when they touch the eye or the nasal mucosa.
Other possible causes for irritation such as dust and smog are present all the year round but become more manifest in spring due to sun, wind and humidity. The best way to avoid irritation is to stay away (if possible) from such irritants. Frequent washing and cold compresses are effective in minimizing the symptoms.
There are simple and effective anti-histaminic eye drops that can also be used. In severe cases, steroid drops may be needed but these need to be used under doctor's supervision.

I stopped wearing eye glasses three years ago after having a laser operation. My eye sight is now perfect, alhamdulellah, but the problem is that I sometimes suffer from eye dryness. I use eye drops, which help me during the day, but they don't work at night, before sleep. Sometimes I woke up in the middle of the night or at morning to find my eyes really dry. Is there a solution for this problem?

You can use other types of artificial tears drops that last longer. These are usually more viscous due to higher concentration of the active ingredient in them. Your doctor or pharmacist should be able to recommend some names available in your country.

I just wanted to know what causes the redness of the eyes and how to prevent it?
Answer
Redness of the eyes is a common symptom of many eye diseases. It can be due to allergy and in this case it is accompanied by itching. Infection can cause redness and is usually associated with discharges from the eye. Even dry eyes and a simple irritation can cause redness and these are usually associated with burning sensation and grittiness.
The treatment is usually directed at the cause of the problem, e.g. antibiotic eye drops in cases of an infection and artificial tears in case of dry eyes. It is better to seek the advice of your doctor if symptoms are severe or persist for more than three days.
