Question
Jamaat seems inconsistent in their policies. In 1950's they decided to participate in elections. Dr Israr disagreed and separated. In 1996 Jamaat decided to keep away from elections and said that article 62 and 63 should be implemented first. In 2001 they participated again in local body elections and made alliances with PPP and PML. Why is this so?
Answer
As a matter of fact the phenomenon of elections in Pakistan should be studied closely. The first national elections were held in 1970 and we did participate in the elections. While boycotting the elections we pressurized the government on one point or the other. We tried to let the people know that the government is violating the constitution and if the article 62 and 63 of the constitution were implemented better and more acceptable and more people would have participated in the elections. So boycotting the elections is the part and parcel of the election strategy. As for the local bodies elections are concerned not only that they are partyless elections, but also they neither change the governments nor the question of transfer of power arises after these elections. Hence joining hands with other parties does not pose any question.

Question
Won't the recent law of Sindh not to let any one become Naazim who has political affiliation affect elected officials' performances? How would a JI Naazim implement JI policy in such situation? Also, why JI has joined hands with PML (N) and PPP in Lahore?
Answer
In fact the present local bodies elections are party-less. Although all the parties protested and wanted the elections to be held on a party basis, but as the government did not comply with that, the parties managed to put up their confidants and thus tried to make room for themselves and quite successfully too. Hence, whatever laws are enacted by the government, they will find themselves on the losing side. And mind you the local bodies do not reflect the parties manifestoes rather they project party workers and thus mobilize the masses.

Question
Do you believe that Pakistan is moving in a positive direction on an Islamic front?
Answer
While talking about Pakistan one comes to know about corruption, nepotism, tyranny let loose, poverty, illiteracy and lawlessness; the agenda of those who ruled the country during the last 30 years. But there is another constituency much bigger having more influence and led by more trusted noble and able bodies. This is the constituency of the people for the people and by the people led by Jammat Al-Islami. These are people who are waging jihad in Kashmir, who are giving education and health facilities to the people who are building confidence amongst masses and sharing their grievances. These two constituencies are in conflict with each other. Hopefully, Pakistan is on the threshold of a revolution. Either during the processes of electioneering or through other democratic and political phenomenon, things are going to improve in an Islamic way.

Question
Islamic groups like yours have always been accused of promoting divisions and rebellion against ruling governments. What do you say to that? Why not work to keep the peace and the unity of the already divided nations?
Answer
Jammat Al-Islami in particular and some other religious parties too always oppose what is un-Islamic, anti-Pakistan, and anti-people. We believe in the rule of law; that is how justice and peace can prevail. We believe in the enforcement of our constitution through which institutions can be built; that is why our struggle for Islamization and for fundamental rights of the people has paid dividends and we are not ruled by those dictators and autocrats, who tried to make the country of their own choice. Otherwise, we could have witnessed monarch’s sheikhdoms and people ruling the society for generations. Thus our struggle is based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah in the Footsteps of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the democratic norms and obligations of a civil society.

Question
Do you have any relations with other Muslim groups elsewhere in the Muslim world? Do you get moral support from such groups? What do you think of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt for example? Do you have any views on Osama bin Laden?
Answer
AlhamduliAllah, the whole Muslim Ummah is awake. It knows it’s agenda, it’s priorities and it’s targets to be achieved. Islamic movements may they belong to the Middle East or to any other part of the world think together, act together, and know their common enemy, the taghut or secularism very well. Every Muslim whenever he raises his hands for prayers he always talks about Chechnya, Kashmir, Palestine, Bosnia, etc… This is the agenda of the Ummah and Islamic movements all over the globe are trying to communicate with the Muslim masses to educate them and to prepare them for a big, big struggle. Thus we have unity of thought and action.

Question
What is the ultimate goal of the Islamic movement in Pakistan? Does it involve helping the government to properly establish Shari’a and remove British common law?
Answer
Governments in Pakistan, one after another are perusing the policies and agenda of their masters. They neglect Islam, the ideology of Pakistan and they have nothing to do with the ills and evils of the society. They are slaves of IMF and the World Bank; they speak the language of American state department and deny the civil rights and liberties of their people. Hence we mobilize the masses, pressurize the governments, launch movements against their deeds so that Pakistan can become a society ruled by the Qur’an and the Sunnah where people can live with peace and fulfill their obligations vis-à-vis people and their Lord.
