Question
As a leading member of the Iraq's Islamic party, do you think it is possible in the present time for an Islamic State to be established in Iraq?
Answer
Thank you for asking this question. It is a big task which needs to be accomplished by joint efforts by all Muslims. However, it should be clear that we need to do a lot of work to convince our people about our program so that they will be part of the process of establishing a society that follows the teachings of Islam and respect the rights of everybody in this society to live with dignity and freedom.

Question
What are the efforts taken by the Islamic Party to deal with the occupying forces? Will you agree if the Shia take care of the affairs in Iraq?
Answer
Well, there are two aspects of the question, one is the status of the country, which is currently occupied by the forces of Americans and its allies. Our party has strongly opposed the war before its occurrence and currently is working with all other true Iraqi political forces to put more pressure on the allies to allow establishment of interim government chosen by the Iraqi people and withdrawing their forces from Iraq as a mater of urgency. All parties in the moment are working through diplomatic and political means to achieve that.
As for the second part of the question on whether we accept a government led by the Shia people, our view on this matter is that it is left to the Iraqi people to decide through elections which party they would like to choose. We hope that people who are working for the interest of our country work together irrespective of whether we are Shis or Sunnis, or from any other ethnic group who work for the best interest of the Iraqi people.

Question
Dear Mr: Al-Samarra'i Es-Selam Aleikum. Can you please elaborte in the situation of the on going so called "Pocket of Resistance". We Listen from Web sources that are many Mujahedeen still holding on to the Ameri"kkk"an Occupation. And also are Iraqis welcomeing the amerikkkans or is just a TV SHow Propaganda. Which all the best to you and the Iraqi Brothers. Es-Selamu aleikum.
Answer
Wa`alykum assalamu warahmatullah.
The current situation is that there is some resistance from individuals or small groups of Iraqi people. However, we are not aware of any party who adopted the armed resistance so far. People are hoping that the occupation could be put to an end without needing to resort to ongoing armed conflict.
The vast majority of Iraqis are not welcoming the American presence and are working to end it as soon as possible. A handful of people whom you see on TV welcoming the American army are not representative of the Iraqi people in any way. And Jazakum Allah for your support to our cause.

Question
What are the latest news about the negotiations among Iraqi parties concerning the new government?
Answer
We have been involves in the negotiations with the main Iraqi parties and politicians to convene an Iraqi conference which will elect transitional Iraqi government. The Americans are opposing to this at the moment and are trying to nominate a committee which work with them to run the country. Until this moment it is not clear whether the Americans will allow an Iraqi government to be established. We will continue our efforts to establish an Iraqi government and to end the occupation, and we need the support of all peace loving people all over the world to achieve our goal.

Question
Assalamu`alykum Dr. Abul-Majeed, and thank you for Islamonline for hosting you. Every day we hear in the news that there is still some resistance even after the occupation of Iraq in some cities like Faluja and others, while other cities are staying quiet waiting for the change. I have two questions:
1. Why the remaining resistance in Iraq is specifically found in the areas where the majority of population is Sunnis?
2. Is this resistance organized or a response or reaction to the provocations from US occupying forces?
Answer
Wa`alykum assalamu warahmatullah brother.
The resistance to the American invasion and subsequently the occupation did happen in all areas of Iraq. The current armed resistance is done by individuals or small groups and mostly due to provocations by the American army like killing demonstrators in Faluja and storming many houses of individuals without obvious reason.
Most of the Iraqi people are against continuing occupation and are working through peaceful means to end the occupation. We expect the armed resistance to increase unless the US army changes its attitude and the American administration commits itself to a clear timetable to withdraw from Iraq and allow an Iraqi government to be established.

Question
Assalamu alaykum
the western media talks of sunni and shia conflict in iraq and as if one muslim sect was being opressed by the other. does any such difference exist among the iraqi muslims? i think that at least the media in the muslim world should not use such terminoligies and try to creat an atmospher of brotherhood.
Answer
Wa`alykum assalamu warahmatullah sister.
Muslims in Iraq, whether Sunnis or Shia, have very good relationship as neighbors and as members of the same tribe and even sometimes of the same family. The Western media continued to highlight the differences and the possibility of in-fighting and conflict. Alhamdullilah the situation in Iraq has not deteriorated anywhere near to that. Of course there are some extreme elements in both communities, but the vast majority of Muslims from various schools of thought are working with one another to prevent any sectarian violence. So far they have been successful to show the Muslim unity, and we need your du'a' to achieve more.

Will the new Iraqi administration rush towards establishment of diplomatic relations with Israel just to prove to US that is going to be democratic administration?

I hope not. What Israel is doing to the people of Palestine including destruction, killing, and continuing occupation and humiliation of Palestinian people is really disgraceful and must end.

Question
Did the people of Iraq accept the American occupation that they stopped the resistance? Did the people find occupation better than Saddam? Do you think the people wanted Saddam to leave at any cost, even at the hands of Americans and Jews?
Answer
Important question!
It is true that some Iraqi people wanted Saddam to leave at any cost. We think that it was a wrong stance. Most people of Iraq, including our party, wanted Saddam to go but not at any cost. At the present time most Iraqis are against the occupation. We don’t think that this occupation is better than Saddam. We are glad that Saddam has gone, but the occupation must end and Iraq must be handed over its own people to govern.

Question
Asalamu Alaikum
What is the biggest challange you face as a party? and how do you want to deal with the Occupation forces, while they clearly say No to religion based groups?
Thanks
Answer
Wa`alykum assalamu warahmatullah brother Omer,
We are doing what we can politically including working with other Iraqi parties using the diplomatic challenge to end the occupation. We are an Iraqi party and it is the Iraqi people who will decide if they like Islamic or secular parties or political system, and not the occupying forces.
The biggest challenge for all Iraqis not only us, is to end the occupation and to establish a government which truly represents our people and look for the best interest of Iraq and its citizens.

Question
We read about Sheikh Al-Kubaisi initiative of establishing a secular government to preserve the national unity or Iraqis based on the state of necessity the country is now facing. Does the Islamic Party agree with such initiative? Do you think it could solve the problem now?
Answer
The issue is whether a truly representative government is going to be established or a puppet regime will be put in place. We believe that if the choice is given to the Iraqi people, the coming regime will be following the Islamic principles. We will continue to work to achieve a free choice for the people of Iraq and to advocate for an Islamic choice. However, if the Iraqis freely choose something else, we will respect that.

Why do we delay fighting the occupier to 1-2 year? We should start from now & organize it properly?
Answer
I respect your view; however, there is an Arabic wisdom "the people of Makkah know its streets better". I think the people of Iraq have chosen what they think will achieve the best for their country and their Ummah. We need your support and du'a'.

Question
Assalamu`alykum
Do you think it is possible to establish a true islamic state without Khillafah? If you intend to restore Khillafah, how will you handle the question of control of the 'Harammein.
Answer
Wa`alykum assalamu warahmatullah,
At the moment we are facing a big challenge to end the occupation of our country which is part of the Muslim ummah and to establish a just government which represents the people of Iraq and serves the interest of our country and umamh.
The issue of establishing a Muslim state for our ummah needs more work by the establishments and people of all Muslim countries and not one individual or one country.

Question
Dear Brother, what are possibilities for a real islamic way of governmet in iraq?( while you have a american counterpart at present)
Answer
Well, we don't have an American counterpart; we have American occupation. The first step for us is to work to end the occupation and establish a representative government. we believe that if free choice is given to Iraqi people they will choose to govern themselves within the Islamic principles.

Question
From what I have read, i believe the Iraqi people have surrender to the US lead forces so they can have better live under American accupation, or the are coward and afraid to protect their own land. Anyway I have no sympathy for the Iraqi who gave up without a fight, don't ask us to pray or help the coward Iraqi fighters and a bunch of traders who like to be ruled by foreign forces.
Answer
Each country or society has mixture of people. I hope that Iraqi people are not the worst. If you don't agree, you need to read the history of all the big scholars and leaders of the Islamic ummah who came from Iraq.
The situation of our ummah is certainly depressing, but we should not be pessimistic as Allah Almighty in His Book said: "And it is true on Us to give victory to the Believers". What we need to do is to be good believers.

Question
What is your assessment on the new law of lifting sanctions in Iraq? What does it contain exactly?
Answer
The cost of sanctions that were imposed in 1990 was 2 millions Iraqi lives. We opposed the sanctions all the way through, but the US administration was opposing lifting the sanctions before. However, the lifting of sanctions by the Security Council at this stage contained with it legalization of the occupation by allowing the occupying forces to run the country and to use its resources at the time of occupation until the establishment of Iraqi government.
The details of the Security Council Resolution can be downloaded from their website.

Question
Is it time nowadays to talk about Saddam's history? Or we should unite against enemy with Saddam or without?
Answer
Saddam was the previous challenge and the occupation is the present challenge. We are sure that the occupation will end at some point and the challenge then will be to build an Iraq which is run by its own people and which takes its role in building peace and prosperity in the area and the wider world. The unity of Iraqi people is the cornerstone to achieve that and we will continue to work to achieve and maintain that.

Question
What is the role of the 'western' Muslim regarding Iraq (Canadian and American reverts to Islam? I'm curious because it seems like we should help our brothers and sisters, but at the same time Saddam was no Muslim - killing Shi’ites, maybe even innocent children and women. There was a call for Muslims to help Saddam or Iraq.
Answer
Thank you for your question. You can do a lot for your brothers and sisters in Iraq. For example, you can participate in efforts to end occupation by voicing your view in your local community and in the media and tow write to parliament representatives and governments officials to support the Iraqi people's cause of ending the occupation and establishing an Iraqi government. Saddam was against Islam and Muslims, whether Sunnis or Shias. The killing in the hands of Saddam was against all Iraqi people and we are glad that his regime has gone, but also we need to face the new challenge of occupation. Thank you for your support.
