Question
While living in Palestine have you been into a difficult situation? Have you experienced injury or death of a relative/friend?

Answer
Up till today I don't have an identity card, even though I'm married a Palestinian, and this prevent me from traveling inside and outside the country. This causes a lot of problems, because I lost the connection with my family. But it doesn't matter so much as I believe in Allah and in fate.

I don't have any problem at all, except the bad situation in the political arena that is all resulted of the Israelis.

I have experienced an injury of my husband and the death of one of his relatives. I blame no one except the Israelis. I believe in Allah and His willing.

Question
What was your former religion and how did you choose Islam?

Answer
I was a Christian, but not a practicing Christian. I used to go to church only when I feel that I need to talk to God. In Ukraine, very few who were interested in Christianity.

I wasn't interested in Islam either, and because of what I heard about it, I had the feeling that it's not different by any means from Christianity, but to tell the truth I knew nothing about Islam as a religion.

In the beginning, I have been knowing nothing about Islam, but when I befriended my husband while we were in Ukraine, I asked him and other Muslims about Islam. I used to go to the mosque that was in the University where we were studying, I used to ask questions about Islam to some Muslim girls going there.

When I got married, I still knew a little about Islam, but when I came to Palestine and lived with the Palestinians, I became more religious and acquainted with Islam.

Question
What about your family? Do they embrace Islam, or not? If not, how do they accept the news about your new religion?

Answer
No one of my family which consists of my parents and one sister has embraced Islam yet. They, sometimes, ask me why I am wearing the Hijab in the hot weather. What is the significance of the Hijab and what is the significance of the prayers I perform from time to time during the day?

I am sure that they keep asking such questions because they don't know the reality of Islam.

A lot of people know nothing about Islam because of the distorted picture that is created about Islam and Muslims by the media.

But when they embrace Islam, they feel the difference and feel the need of the humanity to it. For me, I know that Islam is the best religion on Earth.

Question
How did you feel when you said the Shahadah? What was your feeling when you wore hijab for the first time?

Answer
At the beginning, I didn't feel anything different when I converted to Islam because I converted because I married a Muslim. But, later on I became more satisfied, especially, while performing Salah (prayer). While praying, I feel the utmost moment of rest as I could feel that I'm communicating directly with Allah.

As for Hijab, I felt that it is so good from the first moment I wore it. Yet, wearing it in the western world is very difficult as all the people keep staring at me with looks full of fear and questions. Had they known about Islam, they would know its benefits.

Question
what is significant change in your view regarding Islam before accepting it and now?

Answer
Before becoming a Muslim, I used to know one thing only. It is that the Muslim say Allah Akbar and explode themselves.

But after becoming a Muslim, I knew more about Islam and changed the thought I had about explosions. They are defending their country.

I acknowledged that Islam is the religion of mercy and peace.

Question
What is it like being a foreigner in Palestine? How do you communicate with the people? Do you know Arabic? I ask because I know people who find it difficult to communicate with their own children if the language is different.

Answer
As a foreigner in Palestine, that is an Arabic Country, I feel great as no one harmed me at All. I feel that people are natural and nothing strange with them. All of them respect me and I respect them all.

I learnt Arabic and I speak it fluently. Now I'm intending to learn the formal Arabic to read and understand my religion. I joined the Islamic University of Gaza in order to learn Arabic and some of the Islamic beliefs studies. Everything became good and easy for me.

I could conclude that I came from a European country to a third world country. I came from the world of the corruption decay at all levels to the world of justice and ethics.

Question
Salam alaykum my sister,

Welcome to Islam. I am so happy for you. Please tell me, do you have a favorite surah [verse] in the Qur'an?

Answer
Thank you sister Aishafor your question. All the Surah's of the Holy Qur'an are the same in their greatness. But I can say the the most Surah I like is Al-Ikhlas because it begins with an imparative which is saying or believing that Allah is the only God. As well as I like Al-Fatiha becuase in the middle there is a verse say "Allah, Lead us to the right way"

Question
Do you consider Hijab as something compulsory for a Muslim lady? Have you decided to wear Hijab and if yes, may I ask why?

Thank you.

Answer
Hijab is something significant and necessary in Islam. Hijab is the dress Muslim women wear to cover their bodies.

Also, it dictates on the Muslim woman that she must act more responsible.
At the beginning, I wore the Hijab as a kind of interest, but when I felt its significance of it, I felt that it is necessary.

It preserves the woman as she doesn't display her beauty for all.

And also, Allah said in the Holy Qur'an that a woman should wear the Hijab, so I obeyed His commands.
