Question wish you all the best and hope you are fine.
Why all Arabic countries cannot unite to solve Palestinian issues with peace and UN platform rules and ordinance? What is the role of OIC in promoting peace in conflict areas of Palestine?
with best wishes
MBA fellow

Answer The attempt to unite has been there for a lot of time now, even since the revolution of 23 of July. This is the dream of all the Arab people, but who will allow that to happen on the global level and on the level of the Arab leadership. The aim of disunitying the Arab nations is an old colonial one, and it is still being negotiated till now, and also when the greater Middle East initiative was proposed it was aimed for more disunity among the Arab nations.

Question Will there ever be a time of peace in the Holy Land? or are we destined to endure war and pestilence for the next 40 years?

Answer I want to say something, we are confronting a struggle to exist and not a boarders struggle. What Israel would be convinced of is whether it stays or the Arab nations. Thus, the struggle is there and it will surely stay no matter what peace agreements are made, that is temporary peace, simply because there is a difference in aims, strategies, and intentions. Based on that, the struggle is there and will keep in existence, whether it stops for sometime or escalate in others. Israel always aim for occupying more of the Arab lands for more expansion; thus, all what it aims at form developing its military capabilities with the western and US support is basically directed towards cutting the ties between the Arab countries for the sake of satisfying the Israeli aims.

Question Some of us still remember the warning that Levi Eshkol made to King Hussein not to become involved in the war. But Hussein (pbuh) ignored the warning and handed over command of his Arab Legion to an Egyptian who promptly surrendered Al Quds. I also remember the wild claims of victory made in the Cairo media during the first two days after all of the air force was destroyed while still on the ground. Do you remember?

Answer The absence of the strategic thinking, whether it be the Egyptian or the Arab one, was one of the fundamental reasons behind the Naksa — the 1967 defeat. There can not happen or ever be accepted in military science that there happen a mutual defense agreement between Egypt and Jordan only three days before the war, and the military chief of Jordan be appointed before the operations day by only two days and he is not ever aware of the names of the leaders and soldiers in the army he will be heading.

Thus, there are numerous reasons that led to the Naksa leaving a very painful memory; the Naksa, as we mentioned, stands for the inability of the military and the political powers in these countries to be aware of how dangerous the situation was, which led them to a situation where the military was not prepared well before entering in such conflict leading to the defeat.

Question What conditions that can we refer to in order to the know whether there has been a victory or not in any war?

Answer Any military struggle must has an aim set by the leadership; when the aim of such leadership is satisfied we can then say that it reached its military victory, and if it was not accomplished there is a defeat.

Question What lessons are to be learned from the Six Day War?

Answer The most important lessons to be learnt have already been in the 1973 war. One of the main aims that the 1973 war was based on was to learn the lessons from the 1967 defeat and to work on deleting its effects, and to work on the factors that will make such defeat never happen again. I would summarize such lessons in few points; The military force has to be moving through strategic plan, such plan would evaluate the powers of both sides in the conflict and calculate the chances of victory or defeat.

The military force has to have a fixed aim and defined goals that are accomplishable when measured to the abilities of the force. The forces have to be trained well on accomplishing the goals for a certain period of time before going into the actual application, such period can not be for less that one year for the forces to be fully trained and aware of what they are to do.

All of that was absent in the 1967 war, and at the same time it was the reason behind the success of the 1973 war; the latter — 1973 war — was planned on the national, political, and military levels.

Question Good day, Did Saudi Arabia and King Faisal contribute anything to the defeat or was it mere rhetoric?

Answer The Egyptian forces when it was fighting in Yemen, it was confronting Saudi Arabia. The reason for the elongation of the time of the struggle since 1962 till 1967 was the Saudi Arabia insistence for defeating the Egyptian forces that were there in Yemen. The Saudi stand can for its fear that a success of the revolution in Yemen would mean that Saudi Arabia is the next pray.

Saudi Arabia knew that AbdelNasser used to categories the Arab countries into progressive and regressive states and Saudi Arabia was on the regressive side. Such conflict between the Egypt and Saudi Arabia led to increasing the tension in Yemen between the military abilities of both states, which led to the waste and destruction of such forces just before they entered the 1967 war.

Question The past 40 years appeared that the Zionist regime is criminal regime, which has no intention for peace. This criminal regime has no respect for the human live. This Zionist regime knows nothing else then killing, destroying and telling false. They have full control of the media in the West.

Knowing the fact that Israel was very much defeated last summer in Lebanon, how the future existence of this regime? Will this regime be able to survive the coming 50 years?

Answer The endurance or the elimination of the Zionist regime depends on the Arab armies' abilities to strike a balance of power in the region. But this does not exist because of the alliance of the US with Israel besides the absence of an Arab will to achieve this balance or make the balance tilt in favor of Arabs. The decision of war is decided by each Arab rulers who don’t involve their peoples in the political, let alone military, decisions.

Question Are you optimistic or pessimistic in view of the past and future?

Answer If we were to address the Naksa — 1967 defeat — from the military angle, then I would say that the Arab nation did already overcome such defeat with the success of the 1973 war. The success of the 1973 war was not only a victory to Egypt and Syria, but it was a success and victory to all Arabs because it was an example of unity and military cooperation amongst the Arab nations, which the Arabs did not witness something like before or after 1973.

Hence, overcoming the military defeat of 1967 did already take place. The 1973 was the beginning of the Israeli defeats, the most recent in the legendary resistance of Hizbullah against Israel in Lebanon. Yet, what remains from the 1967 war is the struggle in beliefs and existence between Israel and the Arab nations. Days have proven that it is possible to cause defects in the Israeli military force; that was proven with the victory of Saddam Hussien's forces on the Israeli ones which led to today's destruction of Iraq and its army.

Question Esteemed Sir: Is it not correct to reflect that the blame for the ignominious defeat rests entirely with the late Colonel Nasser who believed his own propaganda of an easy victory when he demanded the withdrawal of the UNEF troops from Sinai and the Straits of Tiran? He and General Amir were simply incompetent. Do you not agree?

Answer The main reason for the June 1967 defeat was the conflict between the military and political leadership which made the latter unaware of the real force of the army. So when the political leadership assigned the armed forces with the war mission, the army was not ready, besides the army was exhausted in wars of independence in other Arab countries such as Yemen which only embraced 120000 Egyptian soldiers in a mountainous land. Nor did the political and military leadership lay down a strategy to train the army in Sinai to enable it to enter any potential war with Israel.
