I am wondering what type of food the prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful.
Salam, Imran.
Thank you for your important question. In fact, Prophet Muhammad was a simple, humble, normal human being who used to eat normal food. He had his favorites as others do and he had his dislikes, also as others do. This is important to note his humanity, as the Qur'an describes this human aspect of him when the verse says what means:
*{And they say: What is the matter with this Messenger that he eats food and goes about in the markets; why has not an angel been sent down to him, so that he should have been a warner with him?}*(Al-Furqan 25:7)
So, some people had thought a prophet is to be divine or a bit over-human and is in no need to food! This would not be how God wanted it to be.
As for Prophet Muhammad's favorites, of course, that included all lawful foods. That included humble and healthy food like dates, milk and barely. His diet nearly depended on that, for it was what's available and whenever he woke up and found no food in the house, he simply continued the day fasting. He fasted Mondays and Thursdays, along with each 3 middle days of the lunar months. He loved lamb's meat, but he hardly ate it for he was poor. His wives reported that three months were to pass without having food fire lit in his house. Again, when he was to be hungry, finding bread in his house, with no edaam (saucy food to be eaten with bread), he use to eat bread with vinegar, saying thankfully: "what better food is there than vinegar".
As for his dislikes, of course, that included all forbidden and prohibited foods and drinks. That included ham, alcohol and the dead mainly. He also disliked the smell of garlic. He advised those going to Friday prayers not to eat garlic or onion before going to mosque so they wouldn't hurt others by their ugly odor. But he never forbade eating those on other timings.

Question
Alsalmu Alaykum, what is the Impact of hijab on society?
Answer
In the name of Allah the Merciful.
Salam, Muslim Boy.
I am happy to hear from you, for it drew my attention that you are a Muslim boy, not a girl, and yet you care for a divine order directed to your fellow-sisters in humanity and religion.
In fact, the effect of hijab on society is exactly like every other divine order that aims at spreading virtue and self-respect, along with moral-intellectual awareness in opposition to body and physical awareness that has been spreading day after day and century after century between the human race.
By this I mean the abuse of women and using them as sex objects and puppets of beauty or even attractive pseudo-models of something that claims to be living, depending on the consumption of physical bodies that would worry out within 20 to 30 years of materialistic beauty.
In opposition to this, Islam seeks that women would simply enjoy the divine-gifted equality that Allah gave to women and that lasts life-long, for 60 or 70 years. This means, as long as they live, whether they keep their physical beauty or whether they lose their queen-haired heads! This divine gift is equality between men and women. The moment a women walks around life as a human being, not as a female, she is then equal in outdoors social fulfillment.
Complete equality is not the need here, but being a sex object is a minus that degrades her on the human being assessment and on the other hand it degrades men being pushed by their physical innate instinct to abuse her or use her by any aspect.
Hijab is a long story, discussion that would never end here. Please have a look at the verse that tells what means:
*{Say to the believing men that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts; that is purer for them; surely Allah is Aware of what they do. And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known; and turn to Allah all of you, O believers! so that you may be successful.}* (An-Nur 24:30:31)
We are a big family,I and my brother are engineers, the other four are with common graduation. But we have a prorlem with work, marriage and other things. We all pray five times a day Alahamdulillah, but no one's work go on better. What should we do as we can't go on with this way of life.
Answer
In the name of Allah the Merciful.
Salam, dear friend.
Thank you for your question and for your trust in us.
I appreciate your patience and hope in Allah despite your touch circumstances and difficult test of life.
First thing to do is that you and your family have to know that we are brought in this life to be tested in different ways and the successful is the one who would know how to pass his or her exam. And, here you are, one big family in an exam that you have to go through with patience, devotion and belief in the One Merciful Beloved Creator.
Second thing to do is that you would be careful never to go through objecting to the Divine's will. That doesn't mean at all that you are not to do anything about it or to surrender to depression, but means that you are to submit peacefully to God's will.
Third thing to do is that all of you are to make du`aa' (supplication) collectively and personally. Do it on daily basis, after each daily prayer, do it after Fajr prayer, do it after midnight and before the calling for Fajr prayer and do it before sunrise and before sunset. Increase your du`aa' while you are in your sujud and directing your face to the Qiblah.
Make sure all of you are to rid of any unlawful money sources and to repent any unlawful acts. Be good to your parents if they are alive and pray for them if they are not. If any of you have wronged them, then make sure to repent at their hands and ask for their forgiveness. Also, give away charity for the sake of Allah and help the poor.
Another important tip is to read the two Qur'anic chapters of Al-Mu`awezatayn (Chapters 113 -114), along with Ayat-Al-Kursey (verse 255 of Chapter 2) and Surat Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2) a lot and a lot and a lot. Have these read in your house a lot and by your hearts and tongues many a lots all the time.
Last but not least is to have faith in God alone and that it is Him Who wills and decides what is always best for us.

Question
What is the Islamic perspective of the following saying:
"We are not humans on a spiritual journey but spiritual beings on a human journey."
Answer
In the name of Allah the Merciful.
Salam, Ambika.
Thank you for your question.
It is not clear from your question if your are quoting your inner voice or if you are quoting someone else. You might find your very thought reflected elsewhere among which are the words and music of Anael who is quiet spread nowadays.
As for the Islamic perspective of "your" words (and not of others, for this is not a forum for fatwa), I can simply say that relativity is a key word here to your answer. Mankind was created a combination of intellects, body, soul, brains, heart, flesh, spirit and physics, among others.
All these, are together on a journey in this world, on their way to another world! What we know of this world is that it is a world of physics, spirits, feelings, emotions, material and mechanics, among others. What we were told of the world to come is that it is a world of what is beyond our ability to perceive.
The Prophet Muhammad has described the Heaven to come as to have what an eye has never seen, what an ear has never heard and what have never crossed a human heart.
So, it is not that we are spiritual beings or non-spiritual beings on a spiritual or a non-spiritual journey. But, it is that we are what we really are, as we are, all what we are, going where all of what were are, to be finally absorbed and completely encompassed with all our needs and abilities.

Question
I am married to a Muslim and I myself reverted to Islam one year ago. With time and reading so much on IslamOnline, I came to the decision to wear hijab, for I am convinced with every single reason for it and most of all I want to please Allah Most High. I have been discussing the matter with my husband and he is not very enthusiastic about my wish, but states that he will not keep me from wearing hijab if I wish. The point that he makes regarding hijab is, that it actually is supposed to make me disappear in a crowed, as would happen in any Muslim country for lots of sisters are wearing hijab there. We are living in Canada and so he argues that a hijab would make me stand out, attract attention and people would be staring at me instead of me going unnoticed. But I don't want to go innoticed, I want people to know that I am a proud and happy Muslimah. Would it be enough to dress modestly and leave the head scarf off? Please advise me on this very important matter!!
Thank you very much and may Allah guide us the straight path.
Answer
In the name of Allah the Merciful.
Salam, Dear Muslimah.
Thank you for your question and welcome to Islam. Thank you also for keeping our spirit up by mentioning that reading for us has helped you out. May Allah accept from you and from us.
As for your husband, we appreciate his effort, but you need to draw his attention that the matter is not negotiable in the first place. The verse (mentioned above to Muslim Boy) is a clear Qur'anic order and it does not say that it is directed to women of Makkah or women of Egypt. It is directed to the "Believing Women", no one else!
If you will draw attention and people will look at you, that is fine. They will be looking at your loose clothes and they will not be watching your skin or flesh. I recall when I was once visiting my brother who lives in Chicago, I was visiting the suburbs. There came that Old Grandpa in the supermarket and asked me politely:
"Excuse me madam, where are you from?"
I said: "I am from Egypt."
He said: "Ah… so that's how they dress in Egypt?"
I answered with a smile: "No sir, I dress like this because I am a Muslim."
The Old Grandpa: "?????"
Keeping my smile I volunteered adding: "We believe in One Merciful Creator and we conflict with abusing women and using them as sex objects."
He answered respectably: "Ah… I would like to read more about that."
I left with my smile on my face, wishing he would read more. I pray he did
I hope you got the message dear sister. Wearing your hijab in your country will not only be obedience to your Creator. But it is also a sign and a message of what you are. Be confident and go for it.
But, be nice to your husband about it. Make sure to look terribly nice at home. I pray for you.

Question
Salam, Sister.
Would you explain the most basic moral of the Muslim woman? Her way of talk, to dress, how to deal with men, and so on…
Jazakum Allah kheir.
Answer
In the name of Allah the Merciful.
Salam, dear friend.
A Muslim woman is simply a human who respects herself and her religion, along with her Worshipped Divine and Beloved Messenger.
She is to be — just like the Muslim man— just and fair, honest and humble, cheerful and modest, decent and skillful and lawful. She is to be clean and tidy, optimistic and merciful, sincere and devoted, clever and productive and of use to her family, self and society, the poor, the needy and the elderly.
She is to wear the hijab, which is to be lose dress and hair cover that is not to show from her body except the face and palms. She is to look decent and elegant though. She is not to look gloomy or aloof.
She is to treat the world, specially men as being a human being who is self-respecting, never as a female. But, she is to treat her husband as a perfect venus!
