Question Is all the disease curable by natural methods?
Answer
There is a famous Hadith that says, "Allah has never created a disease but created its treatment that is known by some people and unknown to others, except death. (At-Tabarani)"

However, just because we know from this that every disease can be cured by natural methods, does not mean we are able to. The wisdom of how to use these natural cures is not known by everyone. It is even impossible for someone who is trained as a healer to know about every method of healing that is possible. There are still many herbs and natural remedies being discovered as well.

Because of this, I can say that is it theoretically possible for every disease to be cured naturally; however, it is not always possible for each individual. It depends on their financial resources, who their health care practitioner is, where they are living and what resources and knowledge are available to them and those that are helping them.

If a person can find the correct remedy that fits their situation and they follow the instructions for this remedy and the remedy is potent, they will heal. The problems people encounter with natural healing can all be attributed to either taking the wrong herb or remedy, using the wrong method of healing, not using the remedy for a long enough time, not following instructions and/or using a product that is substandard quality.

Question As-Salamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh:

The talk is always about remedy and treatment, not about prevention.

Tell me if the information I have is wrong, please.
The cause of illness is the food we eat and the ingredients and additives in it. They, weaken the immunity of the body and leave us prone to disease.

Isn't the best form of natural healing the food we eat and the amount of cleanliness and freedom from adulteration by chemical processes and additives?

BarakAllahu feek for bringing medical and medical knowledge and making it available to us.
I ask Allah that he count the efforts you are exerting in keeping the Muslims well and fit and free from disease as a jihad for his sake. Ameen

Was-Salamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
Answer The causes of illness are many and in some cases we do not really know what the root cause of a person's illness is.

However, if you read through the Hadith on healing you will see that many of them do refer to diet and food. Modern studies also show that the other top reasons we are ill are stress, lack of proper sleep, and lack of exercise.

It is certainly much easier to prevent illness than to heal it. Many people do not take prevention seriously enough until it is too late. There are some illnesses that are almost impossible to heal without surgery. However, prevention of these illnesses could have been managed with diet, exercise and natural healing.

One example is an aortic aneurysm. In many cases this can be prevented with proper diet and a healthy lifestyle. However, once you actually have an aneurysm it is near impossible to heal with natural medicine and diet.

Question Can a person overdose on natural healing? I mean can I overconsume a certain natural product so that it becomes harmful?
Answer
This is a very good question!

I have had many clients come to me who were ill for this very reason.

One client came to me describing multiple symptoms that we later found to be caused by the more than 26 natural remedies he had self-prescribed.

Another client was experiencing daily headaches and nausea. After a long consultation they were found to be the result of her daily consumption of nettles tea. However, it was not the nettles that was causing the headaches - it was the fact that she was making her tea about ten times the regular strength so instead of taking one cup a day she was taking "ten cups" each day.

Some natural products can be harmful if used excessively over time. Sage is one example. Sage can cause problems with the kidneys in some people when used over a long period of time.

Additionally, if a person takes a product for too long without taking a break it can eventually cause a "homeopathic reaction" in the person instead of the therapeutic reaction they previously experienced. This "homeopathic reaction" could increase the person's symptoms and make them worse. This is one reason I recommend that clients take herbs for a period of 6 weeks and then take a break. This is also the reason that healers recommend that herbs like Echinacea are taken in ten-day doses with breaks in-between each dose.

However, it is not only herbs that can be over-consumed. If a person consumes too much of the same food it can actually cause them to become allergic to the food. If a person consumes too many doses of a homeopathic remedy it can actually cause them to feel the illness they are experiencing more intensely, if a person uses too many drops of an essential oil in a massage formula they can become ill.

Even something as "safe" as water can be consumed excessively. There are stories of people dying from drinking too many glasses of water during a short period of time. Of course, these incidents usually happened during a "contest" or "challenge" of some sort. However, they did happen and I am sure the people who entered the water drinking contests never imagined they were unsafe.

Question I read that in ancient Egyot, tomb robbers used to wrap a cloth soaked in certain types of oils made of cloves, rosemary, and cinnamon bark called thieves oil around their mouth and nose to prevent becoming infected with the germs and fungi found in the tombs (which later killed many archeologists. I am wondering if you think this would work for preventing infection with swine flu and other influenza viruses?
Answer
Different stories have emerged as to the origins of the "Thieves Oil". Some state that grave robbers in ancient Egypt used this oil for protection. Other stories state that in the midst of the plague in the 13th century people used it to prevent infection. However, the stories are not as important as the formula. Theoretically, the formula could have been useful in both of these stories.

The formula is: Equal amounts of eucalyptus, rosemary, cinnamon, clove and lemon mixed with base of olive oil. You can put a tablespoon of each in a 2 oz. bottle and then fill the rest with olive oil.

To use it you can diffuse it in the home or workplace for 1/2 hour twice a day. You can also massage it on the bottom of the feet, base of the neck, under the arms and chest. You would need to lightly apply it once a day during the time you are exposed or feeling ill.

Make sure you test a patch on your skin before using it too much. The cloves and lemon can irritate some people's skin.

These oils can be a preventative against many flues - including Swine Flu and others. The oils are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, antiseptic and anti-catarrhyal. They also all stimulate the immune system, circulation and the respiratory system.

Research conducted at Weber State University as well as other documented research, indicates that most viruses, fungi, and bacteria cannot live in the presence of many essential oils, especially those high in phenols, carcacrol, thymol, and terpenes. Thieves oil was found to have a 99% kill rate against airborne bacteria when diffused.

Question I heard that cocoa butter and Aloa Vera are usefull for stretch marks and for healing scars, is this true?
Answer Yes, however, both are most effective when used as the stretch marks are forming and not after they have already formed. This is a good example of how natural healing works when used properly but may not work very well when used improperly.

The proper way to heal stretch marks with cocoa butter and/or aloe vera is to apply these substances (I have found that aloe vera is actually more effective than cocoa butter) daily as the stretch marks are forming. For example, if one is pregnant and they apply aloe vera to their abdomen daily they can prevent stretch marks. If they wait to apply it until after they give birth, the stretch marks can fade, but will not likely disappear completely.

Question Hi there,

does St. John Warts really work. i heard it can be an alternative to anti-depressants. Does it have side effects, what other remedies do you recommend for depression.,

Salam
Answer St. John's Wort really does work. However, it does not work for everyone. For people it is suited for, it works "wonders" and is just as effective as any prescription drugs for depression. The problem with St. John's Wort is that is does not work for everyone and since many people wait until their condition is severe to try it, they may not see the quick results they need or they may not have the time to "try and see" if it works. The best way to know if it is right for you is to seek the advice of a health care practitioner or to try it when your condition is mild.

Depending on the severity of a person's depression they can also try alternatives. However, keep in mind that this is one area where modern pharmaceuticals can help bridge the gap between suffering and natural therapy. If you do not have instant access to a trusted natural therapist it is advisable to see a doctor about your condition. The doctor can prescribe medications that will help you feel better. As you start to feel better you will be more able to research alternatives and make changes to your diet and lifestyle that can help you transition into a more natural form of therapy.

Depression can also be prevented or healed with diet, rather than herbs or medicines. Many studies have shown that people who suffer from depression should increase folic acid, vitamin B6, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids in their diets. People who suffer from depression should also reduce the consumption of sweets, alcohol and caffeine in their diets. I have worked with many clients who were able to heal their depression when they made these dietary changes. Daily exercise - even walking 20 minutes a day has been shown to help heal depression.

Other herbs that are used to heal depression are valerian (because it helps with insomnia that is often the root cause of the depression), ginseng (which is a balancer of all things emotional and physical in the body), ginkgo (which helps blood flow to the brain), and lemon balm (which helps calm the nerves).

Above all, to heal, a person must research the reasons behind their depression, preferably with a health care practitioner. All effective cures for depression should take the root causes into consideration.

Question The probnlem with natural healing I find is that the products are unavailable in many countries or are very expensive to buy. This makes using natural healing very difficult.
Answer This is a common misconception about natural healing and one that many companies would like to see continue. The "problem" with selling remedies made from natural ingredients or selling any natural remedy at all is that these remedies are not patented and the formulas are public knowledge.

It is also well documented that many herbs and foods in different areas of the world can perform similar tasks. For example, herbs for the immune system can be found in many areas of the world - aloe vera is plentiful in South America, Ginseng is plentiful in China, Echinacea in the United States and Tea Tree in Australia.

However, what herbal companies would like us to believe is that one is better than the other - that the herb THEY sell or the method THEY use to extract these herbs is superior to another method or herb. This is accomplished though online campaigns, website information, home based business distributions and even use of the local news media.

The real truth is that natural healing exists in all areas of the world and does not need to be imported. Natural healing is affordable and natural remedies can be made easily and simply in your own kitchen - oftentimes from food items or spices you already use in every day cooking.

I sell an E-book called "The Kitchen Pharmacy" at: http://thehealingchannel.weebly.com/member-e-books.html

This E-book gives you a good idea about some affordable natural remedies that you can find in your own kitchen.

Some ways to find out what remedies are popular, local and affordable in your community are to ask older people in the community who may be more familiar with home remedies of the area, ask local shopkeepers about anyone who may sell local herbs and plants, and learn to identify the plants around you and how to use them. Most importantly, remember that natural healing has a strong base in a healthy lifestyle and diet in general and that many healing methods are free. Many people are surprised to find out that not drinking enough water and not getting enough sleep are two major causes of illness. Water and sleep are usually free.

Question What is the best way to consume licorice for auto-immune disorders. Should I drink it or eat the licorice candy form?
Answer
This is a good question and a good example of how a natural remedy could not work when consumed improperly. Most licorice candy (unless you purchase a very expensive organic and natural brand or make it at home) also contains sugar, ammonium chloride, and sometimes coloring. Some licorice does not even use true licorice extract. Sugar can increase problems in people with auto-immune disorders The binders in the licorice candy can make it difficult to absorb the actual healing power of the licorice extract, especially in people with already compromised immune systems.

Licorice tea would be the best way for you to use this herb.

Question I want to ask an unrelated question about adding milk to coffee. Will the calcium in the milk still be useful as if I drank it alone or are the benefits of the milk affected?
Answer There are many studies that show that for every cup of coffee consumed, four to six milligrams of calcium are lost. Additional studies show that bone density loss is greater in women who drink coffee than in those who don't. Additionally, coffee is a dehydrating drink, which means that you need to drink about one cup of water to make up for every cup of coffee you drink to remain hydrated. This cup of water to "balance" your coffee consumption would not even be counted in the daily 7-8 cups of water you need to consume for optimal health.

If you are able to consume milk, I would definitely recommend consuming it without coffee.

Question I want to ask about Curcumin. I heard that it is useful for Crohn's disease (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) but I don't know how to consume it. Should I use in my cooking or what? When I us eit in cooking I get a stomach ache and I don't know if cooking will affect its effectiveness and anti-inflammatory properties.
Answer Cooking will not reduce the effectiveness of this remedy, which is found in the herb turmeric. On the contrary, most herbs need some sort of process to extract their healing properties, heating the herb in a liquid such as water, oil or glycerin can help extract the properties from the herb. Traditionally this is done by making a tea or a tincture from the herb. However, using the herb in cooking is another way to extract properties from an herb.

However, in your case, if your body is not accepting this herb, it may not be the right herb for you. You indicated that when you use this herb in cooking you get a stomach ache. Have you made this herb into a tea to see if it is the herb causing the stomach ache or something else?

If the herb is causing the stomach ache then you might want to try alternative herbs for your condition such as marshmallow root, slippery elm, calendula, chamomile, psyllium, fennel and/or hops herb (the non-alcoholic version of course).

Question what you really menat by natural healing.. could you ponder some lil methods we can try ourself to be confident, stress free, relaxation and yeah healthy body and soul
Answer There are so many wonderful methods in natural healing - exercise, water therapy (baths, showers, Turkish baths, and drinking water), yoga, prayer, juicing, weekly aromatherapy at home, reflexology treatments (can be done at home by family members), meditation, walking meditation, love, forgiveness, touch and more. However, my favorite natural remedy is sleep. It is not my favorite to use - I would usually rather be doing something else - however, it is the most cost and time-effective natural remedy I am aware of. Sleep does not cost any money and even increasing sleep by small amounts each day can have profound healing effects on the body - even more than if you took herbs, medicine or used other natural therapies. I wish I had time to list all the numerous studies done on sleep deprivation in the past few years. Sleep deprivation has been cited as a factor in almost every major disease including diabetes, heart disease and cancer among many others. Sleep deprivation has also been cited as a major contributor to many mental illnesses.

I would like anyone who is reading this to try a simple, affordable and risk-free experiment on themselves - increase your sleep by one hour every day. Whatever reasons you have for not sleeping enough - take care of them - put them on hold (if you have a lot of work, take a break from a portion of it every day) and make sleep your number one priority for the next three weeks. If you have trouble sleeping there are many herbs that can help, along with common sense habits like don't drink caffeine after noon and don't watch violent or action packed TV shows at night. After you try sleeping 1 or 2 extra hours every night for 3 weeks please write to me at: herbnhome@yahoo.com and tell me what changes you observed. I have worked with many clients who were 50-100% healed after only a few weeks of this "sleep therapy".

Question In rural areas of my country it is believed that covering a female baby's skin in bat blood or colustrum will prevent hair from growing, is this true? I tried it and it worked.
Answer There are essentially three ways of removing body hair: cutting it at the skin surface, pulling or plucking it out by the root and killing the individual root. In the past dangerous methods such as quicklime, arsenic, and other substances were used to kill the roots of the hair. Unfortunately they also eventually killed the person using them. Many modern hair removal creams are also toxic so considering bat's blood is actually not so shocking.

Bat's blood and/or colostrum have been shown to be effective in preventing hair growth in some people. Both of these substances are reasonably safe to use (assuming the bat is healthy and has been tested to make sure it does not have any diseases and that the blood does not enter any wounds the person may have or is accidentally consumed) so I would say "it can't hurt". It would only take a few moments to try and would not hurt or harm the child, so it is "worth a try" because if it works it would be a blessing and if it did not work, it would not have cost you much time or money.

Although, it would hurt the bat, so if you are vegetarian or against animal mistreatment you would want to be very careful about using bat blood (how will it be retrieved from the bat, will it kill the bat, how will the bat be killed? Was it to be killed anyway or is it being killed just for this purpose?)

Question Please give me some natural remedies for sleep.
Answer There are many natural remedies for sleep. You should research each of these and choose the one that is most suited to your condition. First you must ask yourself why you are not sleeping well. Are you anxious? Nervous? Too cold? Too hot? In pain? Do you have nightmares or do you wake up often to urinate? Do you go to sleep quickly but wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep? Each of the following remedies addresses one or more of those concerns.

Valerian (helps a person STAY asleep)
Melatonin (medium sedative)
Skullcap (strong sedative)
Hops (medium sedative)
Chamomile (mild sedative)
Passionflower (strong sedative)
Peppermint (mild sedative)
Jamaica Dogwood (very strong sedative)
California Poppy (medium sedative)
Lemon Balm (mild sedative)

Note: Children can use anything that is mild to medium. They should not use anything from the "strong" category.

Anything from the "strong" category should be used with caution and in smaller doses first. One can always take more of the herb if the first small dose does not work.

Most importantly, don't forget to cut out caffeine, sugar and MSG from your diet - or at least reduce them near to zero - these have all been shown to decrease the ability to sleep or the quality of that sleep.
