Question
Salams. Some scholars argue that Sunnah was not entitled to introduce new rulings in Shari`ah and it only explains the Qur'an. Is this arguement valid?
Answer
Thank you for your kind question.
Surely the main rule of Sunnah with regard to its relation with the holy Qur'an is to explain the injections of the Qur'an.
Having said that, I shall inform you that there is a disagreement among scholars about the entitlement of Sunnah in introducing new rulings.
However, I am of the opinion that the said disagreement is not a big issue thus there is agreement that Muslim must follow whatever injected by the authentic Sunnah either the said injection is considered as explanation of the Qur'an or it is considered as a new ruling from the Sunnah.
All in all, Qur'an and Sunnah are complementary to one another.

Question
As-salamu alaykum. His eminence, Dr. San, Minister of Religious Affairs, I'd like to first supplicate Allah to help you serve Islam and Muslims through your ministry. Second, I would like to ask you Dr. Sano: how you see people--among them are thinkers and scholars-- who call for dependance on the Qur'an alone, arguing that the Sunnah was a practical application of the Qur'an that suited the time of the Prophet (pbbuh), and today world may apply the Qur'an differently?
Answer
Thank you for your question and thank you for your prayers.
Certainly, none can be dependant on the Qur'an alone. Thus Qur'an consists of general rulings and injections and only through Sunnah we can find explanations and details.
For example, Qur'an only injected Muslims to pray but to get know the details of the prayer, its contents, methods and rules we must refer to the Sunnah.
Accordingly, practically it is impossible to understand or apply the injections of Qur'an without referring to the Sunnah.
Therefore, the call for dependence on the Qur'an is a simple claim which doesn't have any ground or proof.

Question
Some Azharite scholars in Egypt recently issued fatwas saying that the Qur'aneen who deny the Sunnah are disbelievers and they deserve capital punishment. What do you think about this, dear Dr. Sano?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Surely, considering the Qur'aneen disbelievers is against the teachings of Islam. Thus there is a need to justify such a fatwa.
There is also a need to justify the meaning of the denial of Sunnah. Furthermore, there is a need to understand the details of their claims.
All in all, one must be careful in issuing a fatwah which contains capital punishment.
Such a fatwa must be based on a collective Ijtihad not individual one.

Question
How far our need to the Sunnah in the modern time?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
The sources of Islam teachings consist of Qur'an and Sunnah.
Both of them are complementary and essentials for the modern time.
In other words, the modern time needs both Qur'an and Sunnah and there will be no time in the future where we won't need Sunnah.
This is in line with reality that Qur'an can never be understood without referring the Sunnah.

Question
What is regarded as the sunnah of the prophet to be followed : his words or deeds, especially, in case of ta'arud?
Jazak Allah Khayran
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Sunnah refers to the words, deeds and approvals of the Prophet (PBUH).
As for ranking the words come before deeds and deeds come before approvals, I shall inform you that there will never be a conflict between his words, deeds or approvals.
In case there is any, there must be a way to solve the conflict through ways and methods known as removal of conflict by combining, or preferring or approbation etc...
God knows better.

Question
Actually, it's a "suicide attempt" to compromise the position of Sunnah.
Instead, efforts should be made at sensitizing the Ummah of the appropriate way we can celebrate this great man! By following his guidelines and be united as Ummah, or neglecting them by allowing intra-war against ourselves on trivial issues?
Is it not high time that we put the concept of brotherhood into practice?
Is it not high time the so-called Muslim world free themselves from socio-political slavery of the west?
Is it not high time the Hamas and Fatah bury their political differences and work together to tackle the common enemies?
Until all those questions are adequately answered, we cannot claim loving the Prophet (pbbuh).
May Allah bless our noble Prophet, the epitome of unity and brotherhood.
MUSLIMS AWAKE !
Answer
Thank you for your kind comments and ideas.
I fully agree with whatever you said.
May Allah bless our noble Prophet.

Question
Please is there a ruling from the Sunnah of the Prophet about eating food fried in pork Oil?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Yes, any thing related to pork, its oil or meat is prohibited by the holy Qur'an and Sunnah.
Thus the Prophet (pbbuh) said, "Allah has cursed Juish. He prohibited for them the meat of pork but they sold its oil and meat and eat the price accordingly".
God knows better.
