The son of Bhutto is a capable leader, and he's confident. He knows how to control the party. The Bhutto family is the symbol of Pakistani federation and the people of Pakistan do not want any one other than Bhutto family to be their PPP's leader. They love Bhutto's family.
This was done in a democratic way because it was according to the party's constitution. And the supreme executive committee has the right to choose the party's leader.

Thus there was no chance of any opposition.
