Question As-Salaamu Alaikum,

Ramadan Mubarak! I wanted to ask you, does fasting slow down one's metabolism? If so, how?
Answer Wa Alaikum Salaam wa Rahmatullah,

Yes, somewhat. Whenever we eat something, we have increased metabolism. So when we fast, our metabolism slows down.

I am not a biochemist, therefore the details of the increase or decrease of metabolism is not available.

Question As-Salaamu Alaikum,

I was reading somewhere that fasting in Ramadan is a means for overweight people to regulate their weight. Is that true?
Answer Yes. That is true Islamic fasting. The way that we usually fast is the exact opposite of the true fast. What I mean is that if we try to practice the Prophet's way of fasting, then it is inevitable that people can and will lose weight.

Question Salam Alaikum,

Does fasting cure physical disease? Also, in terms of spiritual disease, what effects can fasting have on the soul?
Answer It is not a cure in terms of the way that we are used to it where there is a pill and we are cured. However, in many other ways, it is true that fasting is a cure.

Question As-Salaamu Alaikum,

What advice could you give about fasting and maintaining high energy throughout the month of Ramadan?
Answer Wa Alaikum Salaam,

Some studies that we did prove that while fasting it actually improves the performance of the body, which is the exact opposite of what we usually think. Therefore, the energy level is actually increased during the hours of fasting.

We usually think that while fasting, we should have decreases energy, causing us to have a lack of performance. However, the soldiers who have struggled throughout history in the month of Ramadan have had increased energy and effort. The most recent case of this is the Battle of the 10th or Ramadan against Israel.

Consider that the level of fatigue of an individual while fsting compared to one that is not fasting can be measured. That is how we tested this study.
