SEARCH FIELDS

search for

Use one or more of the following to retrieve specific title:
  1. Book - use this field to search for specific subject, author, title, publisher, or place of publication of printed book.
  2. Thesis - use this field to search for specific subject, author, title, university, school, or place of publication of academic dissertation, or thesis- either published or not published.
  3. Journal Article - use this field to search for specific subject, author, title, journal, or place of publication of published works in prestigious academic journal.
  4. Essay - use this field to search for specific subject, author, title, publisher, or place of publication of joint published papers in scholarly book.
  5. Conference Paper - use this field to search for specific subject, author, title, publisher, or place of publication of presented works - either published or not published in conferences, meetings or ceremonies … etc.


  6. Note: The default option is All.
search type

Use one or more of the following to retrieve specific items:
  1. Keyword anywhere - use this field to search for specific subject.
  2. Author - use this field to search for specific author or co-author at any part of the name.
  3. Title - use this field to search for specific word at any part of the title of book, thesis, article, or essay.
  4. Journal- use this field to search for a specific word at any part of the periodical title.
  5. Conference - use this field to search for a specific word at any part of the conference title.
  6. Place of Publication - use this field to search for a specific city.
  7. University - use this field to search for a specific university.
  8. School - use this field to search for a specific faculty.

    Note:· The default search is keywords anywhere. This is the best option when doing a keyword search. Select one or two words or a short phrase that accurately describe your topic and reflect all of the ideas that you want to find information about. Enter your words to search in the search box.
SEARCH OPTIONS

Boolean operators

Use one or more of the following to combine words
  1. AND - use this operator to narrow your search results by combining two similar fields or two related items.

    o Example 3: you can combine two similar fields such as keywords to search for multiple ideas (e.g. education AND history) will return work that discuss both ideas.

    o Example 4: you can combine two similar fields such as authors to search for different spellings (e.g. Hani AND Hany) will return work that discuss both spellings.

    o Example 5: you can combine two different fields such as author and title to search for specific work (e.g. Ahmad AND history) will return works that are limited to both.

    o Example 6: you can combine two different fields such as city and publisher to search for specific work (e.g. London AND Willey) will return works that are limited to both).


  2. OR - use this operator to expand your search results by combining to similar fields or two related items.

    o Example 7: you can combine two similar fields such as keywords to search for related ideas (e.g. culture OR tradition) will return work that discuss either term.

    o Example 8: you can combine two similar fields such as authors to search for different spellings (e.g. Hani OR Hany) will return work that discuss both spellings.

  3. NOT - use this operator to exclude from your search results by combining to similar fields or two related items.

    o Example 9: you can combine two similar fields such as keywords to exclude from two related subjects (e.g. information NOT library) will return works that discuss information only.

    o Example 10: you can combine two different fields such as authors to search for different spellings (e.g. Hani OR Hany) will return works that discuss both spellings.

  4. Note: You may combine two or the three of the operators.


post-Boolean operators

Use one or more of the following to combine words
  1. Any of the words - use this option to return matches with one or more of the words in your query that could be found in the selected field.

  2. All of the words - use this option to return matches with all the words in your query that must found in the selected field.

  3. Exact phrase - use this option to return matches with all the words in your query that must found in the selected field and exactly match your word pattern.

  4. Note: You may combine two or the three of these options.


date restrictions

Use one or both of the date boxes to limit your search period.
    o Example 11: type in the first box the date of publication to search for a particular year. (e.g. 1998)

    o Example 12: type in the first box the starting Year and in the second the ending Year to search for a particular range (e.g. 1998 - 2000).

    Note: To expand or broaden your search use both date boxes blank.


PREFERENCES

Use one or more of the following preferences to profile your results:
  1. Sort records by - use this preference to sort your search results by title, author, or Date.


  2. Custom view - use this preference to specify your search results by title, title and author, or full view records.


  3. Records per page - use this preference to limit the number of listings to appear on each search results page by 20, 40, or 60 records.


  4. Display format - use this preference to limit the type of search results to all, records only, records with reviews, or records with abstracts.

  5. Note: You can save your settings for the preferences form by clicking in the check box. Your settings will be stored in your browser for the next time searching. To fetch your saved settings click again in the check box.
