British Managers Are The Most Stressed In The World LONDON (AFP) - British managers are the most stressed and overworked in the world, according to a survey published comparing the working lives of managers in 24 countries. Britain's managers complain most about their work, and are most likely to suffer illnesses related to their profession, the survey, commissioned last year by private hospital operator BUPA, found. "Long hours, work overload and stress potentially cause poor diet, lack of exercise and heavy drinking and smoking," said Professor Cary Cooper of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), which compiled the study. Managers in the 24 countries studied were interviewed on their physical and mental health as well as job satisfaction. In terms of physical health, Israeli managers came out on top, followed by those in India and Hong Kong. At the bottom of the league were Bulgaria and Britain. In terms of mental health, Indian managers fared best with Britain coming second last ahead of Bulgaria. Managers in India and Canada were the most satisfied with their work, while those in Britain again fared worst behind their counterparts in Japan
