What About the Kids?
Every day, we are bombarded with images of children in desperate situations. In the last few years, we have seen an unprecedented amount of children shooting other children. We see commercials begging us to help starving children in far away countries. We hear stories about children that need homes or that are bouncing from one foster home to the next. "It's a terrible problem," we say. "What kind of people are these?" we wonder. Unfortunately, the problem hits much closer to home.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HURTS MUSLIMS TOO:
STOP THE HURT NOW

This past October marked the observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month nationwide. Three to four million women are beaten annually and every 15 seconds, a woman is abused in her home. Nationally, domestic violence has become the number one cause of death among women. Some people might react by saying, "That's a tragedy that doesn't effect Muslim families." On the contrary, it does.

Scars That Can Be Seen - And Those That Cannot: Spouse Abuse
It is clear, from both the Qur'an and Sunnah that we, Muslims, should marry. Marriage is the most acceptable state for us. It is also clear that marriage should be a peaceful and happy state. Unfortunately, for many husbands and wives this is not true. Marriage becomes a place of pain and suffering instead of the place of "repose" noted in the Qur'an. Spouse abuse exists in two manners: physical and psychological.
