After-school Antics: Statistics On Juvenile Violence
Serious violent crimes by juveniles occur most frequently in the hours immediately following the close of school on school days.
Juveniles injure more victims in the hours around the close of school than at any other time.

Temporal patterns for
incidents of robbery and aggravated assault by juveniles vary for school
days and non-school days .

Rates of violent victimization
for juveniles are higher for school days than non-school
days.

- About half of the days in a year are school
days. The other days fall in summer months, on weekends, and on
holidays. Despite this, 57% of all violent crimes by juveniles occur on
school days.
- Juvenile violence peaks in the
after-school hours on school days and in the evenings on non-school
days.
- On non-school days, the incidence of juvenile
violence increases through the afternoon and early evening hours,
peaking between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
- Violent crime with injury peaks for juveniles at
3 p.m. In contrast, the number of victimization with injury by adult
offenders increases throughout the afternoon and evening hours, and
peaks around 11 p.m.
- Similarly, incidents of violent crime with
injury by juveniles peak at 3 p.m. on school days, compared to
increasing numbers throughout the day and a peak between 8 p.m. and 10
p.m. on non-school days.
- On school days, incidents of robbery peak at 3
p.m. and again at 8 p.m., compared to 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on non-school
days.
- On school days, incidents of aggravated assault
peak at 3 p.m., compared to 8 p.m. on non-school days.
- 1 in 5 of all violent crimes with juvenile
victims occurs between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on school days.
- Robbery victimizations peak at 3 p.m. on school
days, compared to 9 p.m. on non-school days.
- Similarly, aggravated assault victimizations peak at 3 p.m. on
school days and at 9 p.m. on non-school days
