Shaping the Future:
Giving the Muslim Family a Helping Hand

The family is at the center of the Islamic way of life anywhere in the world. The Qur'an exhorts the believers "Save yourselves and your families from hell-fire," thus placing the family at the core of one's responsibility in this life. Numerous hadith extol the virtues of taking care of one's family. In today's society, this responsibility takes on a new meaning, both from the perspective of an individual being responsible for a family and the family itself functioning as a family.

Our Children and Ramadan
Generally speaking, children are not required to fast Ramadan until they reach the "age of maturity". However, scholars believe that parents should train them to fast a day, two, three, or so until they become ready to fast when they reach that age. The question remains, how does training on fasting begin? We posed this question to Dr. Abala Khlawai from the Faculty of Islamic Studies, at Al-Azzhar University.

Last week Islam-Online featured an article about homeschooling. The following are the results of extensive research done on homeschoolers in the United States of America. Overall, homeschoolers do much better than their public school counterparts.
