The ban on "Nari" (Women) by Humayun Azad was ordered in 1995 for allegedly hurting Islam but was lifted late Tuesday by a High Court bench consisting of Judges Syed J.R. Mudassir Hossain and Awlad Ali.
The judges said the ban was "illegal" and "without lawful authority."
The previous Bangladesh government imposed the ban alleging its contents were "against the principles and beliefs of Islam," following which Azad filed a writ.
"I am very happy, astonished and at a loss (after) hearing the epoch-making verdict (which) has paved the way for free thinking, freedom of the speech and expression," he told the official BSS news agency.
The book speaks about women's right to freedom and their conditions in the real world.
