Cold War Over Elian Gonzalez

On American television Wednesday night, Cuban leader Fidel Castro said the father of a boy trapped in the United States for months now could travel to the United States anytime and pick up his son.


The presence of permanent foreign media correspondents has reached the highest levels since the Islamic Revolution, with 32 foreign journalists and another 44 Iranians working with foreign media outlets – double the number before President Mohamad Khatami came to power in 1997.

The Virtue Party, its votes blocking a major initiative desired by the government, is demanding that the Turkish Constitution be adjusted to prevent the easy dissolution of political parties.
