Russia Wants Chechnya Off Muslim Agenda
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov tried, during his recent trip to Iran, to convince the country to lobby for the removal of any references to Chechnya in the Organization of Islamic Conference's meeting of Information Ministers that will be held in Tehran this Monday. Russia does not want to hear any condemnation of its activities, or any sympathy for the Chechens. According to Iranian foreign minister officials, Ivanov explicitly asked that the concluding statement of the ministers' meeting not contain any condemnation of the Russian war on Chechnya.
